SNL UK

well I loved that. they really saved the best for last with that Jugs sketch. "what a sad little life Jane." "you've changed my LIFE!" :disco:

Yes, there does seem to be rather a lot of people eating crow this morning. I don't have Sky but my Instagram has gone from "ugh, I bet this is SHIT" to "Oh, that was...actually good".

not all sketches uploaded yet but these have good views already.

They had a lot more potential with some Cilla Black jokes in The Last Supper sketch. Let’s hope Our Cilla could become a a regular impression.

I actually thought her Cilla was dreadful and more like a terrible snatch game impersonation... it was all scouse but none of Cilla. but she redeemed herself with Jugs

True about the impression itself. I was just expecting a joke about Cilla removing everyone else from her table.

I have no doubt the normal corners of the press, had anti-woke articles ready to go before it even aired. But that Princess Diana - it like R Di was back.

I've hit play, let's see if I'm one of the crow eaters
I'll have a crow starter. I laughed a few times, but the pre-recorded sketches were much better than the live skits, weekend update aside.

Probably won't ever watch a full episode again but will happily watch whatever goes viral afterwards. I hope it does well enough to get a few more series at least, for the live music slot if nothing else

226k viewers live on Sky One last night which is apparently huge for them. it beat the Mission Impossible film showing on Channel 4. I imagine they'll also be looking at figures from on demand and how the sketches perform on YouTube plus the US streaming figures for the show on Peacock.

Apparently SNL only regularly gets about 5K viewers on Sky Comedy anyway.

Would need to have faith that Peacock viewers in the US would have the same tolerance that we do, for impressions of celebrities they might not know. I was already impressed with the Reggie Perrin and You Rang M’Lord references from Graham Norton/Tina Fey, which would easily isolate anyone under 40.

I've never seen a whole episode of the US show but my general impression was overly pleased with itself. I didn't get that when I watched this last night and quite enjoyed it, hit and miss as it inevitably was (I'd have lost the fifteen minutes past the hour).

Tina Fey was very good but did feature very heavily. Some of the cast didn't make much of an impression, I expect they will get their chance in the coming weeks.

Di obviously must return.

The loud canned laughter after every line ❌

The political jokes that land somewhere between the back of a Penguin wrapper and Comic Relief ❌

This was as expected.

It coulda been Andrew Windsor ordering a Quattro Formaggi in Pizza Express and Cilla Black beating up airline stewards to the tune of Benny Hill music but we end up with something Donald Trump approves of

Ok this was a great start. The Princess Di was funny and I really liked the skit about the Internet.

Also mustache guy from Weekend Update can get it

I saw a clip of the weekend update, the not-a-Prince Andrew bit. It was good!

Undoing the good work of last Saturday night with THAT

It’s so weird laughing out loud to a British comedy programme.
