So it looks like the S Club revival is really happening...

OF COURSE without S Club we wouldn't have Come and Get It though.

Poor Rachel. She had the TUNES and the LOOKS but she's still BORING AS SIN.

Fat Paul facially looks SPOOKILY like my Mum when she was heavily pregnant.

I'm seeing Jo, Bradley and Paul next month :D

I imagine there will be about THREE of us there, but I'm excited :disco:

Still, a reunion? The difference is that S Club were to Steps like Sugababes (pre-Catfights) were to Girls Aloud. S Club had more goodwill from the general public and their songs appealed to a wider audience, but no one really LOONED over them as they were very bland, showed little personality, were mainly just a TV show with music on the side.

Steps had the very hardcore fanbase (even at their last, most boring single they could still get 40,000 loons out buying it first week despite a million owning the album) which I think is why their reunion has been successful. Not sure S Club will have that demand.

Didn't S Club have more number 1 singles than Steps though? I think the difference is S Club hung around and faded out as cheesy pop stopped selling. Steps on the other hand split at the perfect time, they'd just had Gold go number 1 and left people wanting more. It was very much Steps had more to offer whilst S Club had done all they could.

Another difference was progression, I don't think S Club ever really developed as a group. They had a few decent singles but nearly all their albums had filler that was absolutely crap. Steps however adapted their sound and style showing progression along the way.

S Club's albums weren't exactly identikit

S Club - Cheapo 'Latin'-influenced
7 - Cheapo 'r&b'-influenced
Sunshine - 'Pure' pop
Seeing Double - 'Dark', dancey pop

Bring It All Back and You're My Number One were just cheapo and had no Latin vibe, they would have quite easily fitted on the Sunshine album. Whereas 5678 and Better Best Forgotten would have been out of place on Steps third album.

Both acts were guilty of attempting to emulate previous songs, but the 'Sunshine' album was bizarrely like a whistle-stop tour of every single they'd released to that point (I quite enjoyed it, but it was odd)

I think they did progress albums-wise, but Steps seemed to evolve in a much more organic manner - each album felt like a natural progression from the last one - yes they dabbled in different things, but essentially from start to finish, Steps were a pop act. S Club 7 got caught between the teen-pop of their debut and the credibility of 'Don't Stop Movin', each album after their debut felt like it was trying to do too much to not be Steps, but without any REAL idea about what they should sound like - inconsistent, but they were buoyed by a fairly consistent stream of singles which DO, at least, make chronological sense when played in sequential order.

But as I've said elsewhere with all these reunions, and as Silly Moo says above, the real appetite for comebacks so far has been those that ended before the public had their chance to say "we're not interested anymore" - either on a sour note or prematurely. Steps arguably ended just as people started to realise how good they were, there was definitely still a fanbase for them. I don't really see what the demand for an S Club 7 comeback would be commercially because their albums had started to dip in sales, their chart peaks were steadily reducing and the whole thing was looking very TIRED. I don't think people were surprised or disappointed when they split up, it just felt like the end of their shelf-life.

Let's play a GUESSING GAME:

What people are asking this week

The S Club 7 reunion has been on the cards for ages, with six of them all raring to go but one who kept holding out on the rest.
Which one was it? And what must it have taken for her to change her mind?

I think it's safe to say Tina has the most to lose if this goes badly, with her solo career and everything. I wonder if her manager Kane is involved in this reunion?

Kane Manager the POP IMPRESARIO!

It's got to be Hannah - she has an actual credible acting career now, dontchaknow

Primeval has been moved to Canada though with seemingly little or no involvement with the British series. With no mention of the series being renewed over here surely Hannah is free for this reunion.

Also both have their fat members but Claire would eat Paul for breakfast.

OH DEAR! :D

That is fucking TRAGIC :D

Where are the rest of them? Has it all fallen apart already?

Those three have been doing uni gigs for a while

Steps really have aged IMMACULATELY in comparison haven't they?

I don't know how my former #1 Most Fanciable Man Alive can sing lines like "No-one knows just what the future holds/There ain't nothing you can't be, there's a whole world at your feet" without having a full-scale breakdown

The others used to get in their way? To the fridge? Paul is a right state, at first I thought Karen Poole had REALLY let herself go.

Why is Dannii mocking them and being a cunt - they're not cocky bissexuals.

The Morning Show really has went downhill after Gina G chose it to officially kill her career:

The best bit is Bradley's TUNELESS ad-libs at the end :D

"SHIIINING... *awkward pause* SHIIIINING!"

You know that what you're doing is embarrassing when even TINA BARRET turns it down.

Paul's looking a bit better than he was... still fat and old though. Jo seriously looks about 50, and like she's off out to Mecca Bingo.

Jo looks like she's been sunbathing in Oz with a bit of the old olive oil, she looks so common. It says a lot that she seems the most professional out of the sad bunch.

That performance is to the Steps reunion performances what S Club were to Steps in the first place. We really shouldn't be surprised. They had no magic in the first place, they just had HITS.
