Soldi Sunday

My latest family saga is that my Dad has finally flipped on my usual eldest brother who has been shit for years and years but the final straw was putting a card through the door for Father’s Day with a tenner in it on Thursday without even knocking.

Note that he lives two streets away and him or any of his (adult kids) have not been in at all through lockdown to offer help or anything. He normally only bothers going in on birthdays and Christmas and Father’s/ Mother’s Day but this is a new low, even for him.

And for those of you thinking I’m sad about this state of affairs, AU CONTRAIRE- I am overjoyed at this turn of events as I hate the CUNT.

Fish will be the reason I can never go fully vegetarian.

I'm very aware it's very easy for me to see "let them act like a prick" when I'm not directly affected by it. But I do also think prickery is bred by people fighting it. If someone is allowed to to keep doing the wrong thing you like to think they'll realise they're upsetting everyone. Eventually.

This person will never change, I know that. Its one of those frustrating where you can't do right for doing wrong. Life is easier without them to be honest.

On your dad's side fully. My mum has a friend who is lovely but always puts a card through the door without knocking and I've forever said that's a bit OFF so for a son to do that on Father's Day is 10 times worse.

Oh jeez that's awful! I've had gifts like that and just sold them on ebay and used the money to buy schoolbooks for poor children in India. That's poisonous money.

I really REALLY hope I don't raise children who turn out like that.

INNIT! I have no problem doing stuff for my parents, which they really rely on now (and especially since COVID obviously) but it REALLY fucking irks me not only that he doesn’t give a shit but that he feels his time is so much more valuable than mine that he doesn’t need to contribute. He’ll be there the day the will is read out though! I keep trying to persuade my parents to cut him out- and to donate to charity rather than giving to me or my other brother.

We all had the same upbringing so I guess you just can’t tell.

I adore seafood. I would very easily give up meat if I had someone to prepare me shellfish daily.

God I love fresh crab. I was going to get one today but they only had whole and I can’t be fucked.

I'm a little pissed off at Father's Day. The cemetery where my father is buried (well, cremated first, then buried - clearly mum wanted to make sure he was doubly dead) has been in a right state since COVID, as the council hasn't mown it. The grass was higher than the graves, and so I decided the end of last week that I wouldn't take any flowers up as it would be a waste.

Today I was walking past the cemetery on the way to the supermarket and discovered that the fuckers went in either Friday or Saturday and have tidied it up. So now I feel bad for not going up there with flowers.

And this comes on top of me forgetting my parents' anniversary this year, so it was the first year since Dad died that I forgot to take my mum up flowers, which my mum told me on Friday. So I feel like a bit of a shit all told.

Still don't feel like posting a photo of my dad's grave on facebook like my brother, though.

Yes, I prefer crab to lobster as well. It's just a more substantial flavour.

I think it was going winkle picking in the rock pools as a child on holiday in Devon or Cornwall which started my love of seafood.

Go one further and film it for Facebook with a mawkish backing track whilst rolling about and screaming “they’re gonna bury me sideways”.

Seafood is my favourite type of food.

As cruel as it is, I can't stop watching videos of this terrified woman grappling with giant octopuses and lobsters then eating them.

Oh stop this conversation! They had lovely fresh clams this morning too and I was dying to make a vongole but it’s not worth it for one ☹️

No, in their shells winkles are more like snails, and cockles like clams.
Ooh let's talk SNAILS.

In France, escargots are da BOMB.

But I ordered escargots in Italy once and they were TINY and covered in pasta sauce, so it was impossible to get the snail out without getting a least of bit of shell in there. Felt like I was chomping on glass the whole time

I don’t think I can do octopus anymore. I love it, but they’re such sentient beings that it upsets me. WOOLY OLD ME.

When I was at primary and I used to go to my gran's for lunch as my mum worked, every Thursday was fresh cockle day at the fishmongers. So it was a plate of fresh cockles with white bread, vinegar, pepper and nothing else. I fucking LOVED it.

God I LOVE snails. Huge ones cooked in garlic butter. Never thought about that- I guess you can’t eat those and be vegetarian :D

My Grandad used to do that. Other days I’d be presented with a PIG’S TROTTER :D

That's a CONUNDRUM

but winkles are okay (if you're pescatarian, at least) because they are seafood?

Well yeah. It seems weird to have one but the other is forbidden.

I wouldn't eat trotter. But pig's tail was another matter entirely.

It was just meat as a kid. Cooked and we used to put vinegar on it for some reason. I’d never touch it now- and I can’t think I would have even when I ate meat.

See also: brawn.

Re: seafood. All delicious. Fucking love a rollmop, and I've never met a shellfish I wasn't prepared to eat.

I did enjoy lobster, but after discovering that ordering it had condemned one to death I felt guilty and haven't ever had it again. I like my meat to be proper dead before I decide I fancy it for tea.
