This looked absolutely ludicrous from the trailer, and to be fair it kind of is. Hugh Jackman schmacting up a storm in that curiously off-putting way he often does, and some of the wiggiest wigs I've ever seen.

But I was surprisingly charmed by it. It's very old-school and on-the-nose, but also sweet and quite funny, despite some surprisingly dark turns in the second half. Kate Hudson playing Marge Gunderson with American Idol dreams was very likable indeed. She's obviously not winning the Oscar this year, nor should she, but I'm glad she got the nomination.

Yes I saw that a couple of weeks ago. Clearly they’ve had a glow up by casting Jackman and Hudson, and condensed the story into just a few years. The Pearl Jam gig in real life was much bigger than the way it is done in the film.
