I was an Irish teen in the mid through late 90s and Dolores O'Riordan seemed to be everywhere. She is basically the voice of my youth. However some of the actual songs were not absolutely huge hits.



'Dreams' peaked at #7 in Ireland, #27 in the UK and #42 on the American Billboard Hot 100 (though it did better on Alternative Airplay, reaching #15.)



'Linger' (maybe my favourite Cranberries song) managed to reach #3 in Ireland and #8 on the American Billboard Hot 100 (#4 on Alterbnaive Airplay) but only hit #14 in the UK.

Back to The Pixies, I only just found out Velouria's terrible video (I mean, it always disappointed me given how grand, galvanic and dare I say it "gigantic" the song is) was something rustled up to bag a totp slot, only it flopped and they didn't get the booking or something? To think I only ever dine out on Death to The Pixies - I should really try the actual albums and b-sides, etc.

Edit: ignore, it got to #28, which is actually pretty great for them. Big big hugs to all who bought it.

I mean, Alanis would be a great one, but her songs were ubiquitous radio hits like few others. You Oughta Know (#22), Hand in My Pocket (#26), You Learn (#24) and even Ironic (#11) all felt like they peaked much higher, but I guess cumulatively you'd just go for Jagged Little Pill after so many John Menzies adverts. By comparison, Joining You (#28) certainly did not feel like a hit. I remember walking into my history class and it was playing, just gasp-asking "is that the radio? Is that the radio??" (and getting no fucking answer I'll add).
