Songs you were SURPRISED to discover were actual COVERS

On Thank God I Found You / Make It Last... all of Mariah's late 90s remixes (and even the main songs) were unafraid to reference or not reference. But she never hid this. Her straight-up covers were presented as such, as were her samples, interpolations and references. Respectful queen.

None of the Madonna revelations in this topic remotely surprise me. There's a thin line between inspiration and straight up thieving.

I mean, we could be here a long time with Cher source material, but this she thought was going to be huge, bless her elephant saving heart:

I discovered this about 10 years ago. Say You'll Be There (at least the instrumental, at the 12-second mark and the 1.27 mark). They even earned a credit on the actual song.

After 7 were so great. You can totally hear the reference! This sounds like a Babyface song?

I also discovered this recently. Had no idea. Sorry but Simply Red’s version is better. I love that song.

I was gobsmacked a few years back to learn 'Without You' wasn't originally by Harry Nilsson but by the band Badfinger.

Badfinger:

Nilsson:

I have to say Nilsson's version is still my favourite by some margin.

After 7 were so good. I didn't know this was written by no other than Jon B! Now that was a handsome man :horny:
