So, I heard this in, er, Heaven last night and momentarily lost my shit to it. It really is one heck of a rousing pop moment from Skelmersdale's finest.

I prefer Listen To Your Heart, personally. I always assume Sonia had a few more BIG hits than she did.
 
AMAZING. It sounds like childhood.

I only learned that she was from SKEM a couple of years ago; I'd always assumed she was a proper scouser rather than a Lancastrian. I wish she'd filmed the video there, it's GLAMOROUS.

It's amazing. All the singles from the Everybody Knows album are great (apart from End Of The World). I love the frantic mental lyrics to this. It's a brilliant piece of pop writing.
 
This and Cartoon Heroes are my Singstar songs of choice :disco:
 
It's not something I would listen to ON THE BUS (it's more of a CAR TUNE) but I have certainly had a QoL moment to this on a DANCEFLOOR at SOME POINT IN MY LIFE
 
I was listening to my SONIA GOLD playlist just the other day. What an artist.
 
I really like her version of End Of The World. It showcases the fact that unlike most of the SAW stable she could actually sing.

It's MARVELLOUS. But it was the EPITOME of SAW's "write by numbers hit factory" schtick...
 
I'm not that much younger than you, and I love a LOT of SAW stuff - Divine, Dead Or Alive, Kylie (obv), the aforementioned two Sonia tracks, Sinitta, Mel & Kim (:disco:), Wow-era Bananarama...

I just think there's a lot of DRECK too. Jason Donovan and Rick Astley? Don't get me STARTED.

(I didn't know any of this stuff at the time - emotional resonance must play a role)
 
I vividly remember buying HITS 93 VOLUME TWO on CASSETTE because it had 'Better The Devil You Know' on it.

I rediscovered it many years later whilst circumnavigating northern England in a big white van. I suspect I'm UNIQUE in the fact that I'm probably the only person on the face of the earth to have driven up the arse of every other motorist in the third lane of the M62 whilst stretching the capabilities of a diesel Ford Transit and listening to eurovision era SONIA.

It's just FANTASTIC, unlike 'Better The Devil You Know' which is indeed absolute cack only (just about) rescued by our Son's HOT VOX

"Better The Devil You Know" is absolutely horrible though, and all the more shameful for sharing a name with the REAL DEAL.

Also: Jason Donovan was uniformly crap with nary a redeeming feature and/ore song.

Oh, yes Lee Mead. Still doing alright in showbiz circles actually and currently at the Palladium in Cinderella with Julian Clary, Nigel Havers and er, Amanda Holden.

Speaking of Lee, that "pick a Joseph" TV show was truly a nadir in popular entertainment. Still, I suppose it kept Denise van Outen occupied for a few years.
 
At least none of them ever did porn like that dreadful Craig Chalmers.

Even worse, he's now doing porn with HIS WIFE.

I'm a bit tipsy and enjoying this debut TOTP performance where the crowd are genuinely losing their shit to it :D I really wish KIDS TODAY got so enthused about bouncy euro-pop.



I also enjoy this live performance from 2013 which showcases that she really does have a very decent voice by SAW star standards.

 
I do acknowledge its status, but I don't actively seek it out these days. I loved the album at the time though. Listen To Your Heart is her pining peak, but on this she's positively at bursting point. I feel we were robbed an aggressive PWL house album from her. And she was my introduction to Eurovision so her place in my heart is forever lodged.
