I know there's been some chat about this gloomy synth pop, but I felt it needed it's own topic.



 
This is also pretty fantastic in its own right:



I am expecting big things from the album, even if there are only eight tracks and Remember To Forget Me is on there twice.
 
I entirely second the SONG OF THE YEAR callings :disco:

The video genuinely makes me a little emotional too :D
Also short haired dancer really REALLY deserves to win the coveted prize of Rear Of The Year :disco:

If this is the official SONIKKU thread, we definitely need to include the SOPHIE remix of Sweat :disco:

It’s probably the biggest song at TRENDY LONDON GAY RAVES at the moment. I wouldn’t be shocked if it had some sort of break out moment of its own over the Summer tbh.

I wouldn't know about TRENDY LONDON GAY RAVES but that is MARVELLOUS.

Also I've just noticed that Remember To Forget Me has under 13,000 plays on Spotify. What a PALTRY NUMBER.

I wish he'd appear in his videos though, not being much of a fan of artsy farty interpretive dancing videos myself.

LIZ needs a rebrand though as I thought she was the current HOT THING for OBVIOUS REASONS when she equally obviously ISN'T.

WKND is great too. Very much in the vein of the stuff that Ronika used to churn out some years back.
 
I love that remix. It seems LIZ is much more to my taste when she is SONIKKU adjacent.

The album is quite the treat. Spoken Neil Tennant style (or is it more London Boys? :D) spoken verses on the opening track, someone called ALBERTINA doing a marvellous turn on Don't Wanna Dance With You, Little Boots handling the midtempo melancholic synth groove, a high drama ballad version of Remember To Forget Me and the SOPHIE remix of Sweat tacked on the end for good measure. :disco:

I keep going to listen to Fiona and Rina, but end up putting this on instead. It’s just so much FUN!

It sort of reminds me of Introspective or Honey in that it’s quite a short album, but each track serves a purpose, it’s just been zipping by very happily when listening. Also great mood music for being stuck indoors :D

Don’t Wanna Dance With You is my immediate stand out obv, but Joyful Death is also pretty special - imagine if it was Grace Jones barking the bonkers poem over the instrumental :disco:

 
Only giving this album a proper listen tonight, and it's everything! Still can't believe he managed to get A Song For Moopy legend LIZ to contribute vox on so many tracks :eyes:
 
I like it! it's very instant and straightforward but not in a negative sense like I've seen some reviews say

makes me wish we'd get another great Hercules & Love Affair album
 
Don't Wanna Dance With You is indeed amazing, even if it doesn't surpass Remember to Forget Me.

I was not aware of the use of Sonic source material but that is brilliant. :D
 
He's put an instrumental version of the album on bandcamp, which I purchased to mainly lend support - but the instrumental of Remember To Forget Me REALLY works without a vocal. It becomes a really beautiful sad-synth banger.

Also, if you missed these FABULOUS remixes I highly recommend :disco: :




The Get Together one feels like being WIRED INTO THE MAINFRAME :disco:

Oh yeah totally fair - unprofessional and messy for sure.
But I also think calling on CANCELLING a young gay musician and telling them to JUST FUCKING DIE for literally commenting on a remix is dangerous gay hyperbole gone mad, and also a pretty hypocritical thing to do.
