Spanish General Election 2023

I haven't seen any discussion here but this looks interesting and a little foreboding. Pedro Sanchez's centre-left coalition has held together remarkably well in a country with little traditional of coalition government (Spain and UK seem to correlate a lot - with one big centre right and one big centre left party) but in the upcoming general election there's a strong chance of the PP returning to power, but in coalition with the far-right Vox - a party with some disturbing policies to put it mildly. Interested to hear from our Spanish posters on this.

I’ve been keeping half an eye on it, it was looking good for PP/Vox but I think support for PSOE has been rallying in recent weeks.

Yes, I was just reading that the polls seem to be narrowing.

My two-minute take on it is that Vox + PP will sweep because they have correctly identified that the majority of the population is tired of identity politics and they're tying their campaign to stability, safety and prosperity, downplaying all their dreadful identity politics of their own. Oldest trick in the book but it seems to be working with the general public.

Which is quite a trick to pull (I don’t want to call is savvy) considering Spain’s economy is one of the more robust amongst the G20 right now (notwithstanding stubborn unemployment but that isn’t recent). Interesting.

I think this is what you call a stalemate. PP clearly surged but not by quite enough whilst the PSOE seemed to do better than expected as our very own @big ron suggested it may

Hasn’t Spain in recent years always changed majority with each elections?
