Speculate Wildly About Enya (8 Viewers)

This little paragraph describes Enya's personality (without all the ethereal dressing up) to a T. ๐Ÿ˜…

Shopping/purchasing big things and random chatty moments in interviews come to mind as her impulsive traits in the past. With age it can present as being more disorganised and restless than usual. I hope she manages all that okay ๐Ÿ˜Œ
"random chatty moments in interviews " what you mean?

Like when she suddenly talks about something with the interviewer in an energetic way (not shy nor held back) more than her usual calm, reserved way. She isn't necessarily the expert at the topic, but she suddenly begins talking about a TV show, about neighbours, etc. (in later interviews). In earlier interviews she is more opinionated, talks a bit about lifestyle stuff, being busy, very tense moments in the studio, and this

~Enya, 1989 ๐Ÿ˜„โœ๏ธ
It somewhat goes against her strong "focus on the music, not me" preference, but she does enjoy it; sometimes it comes naturally to her. ๐Ÿ˜Š

She has no real thoughts on the upcoming Prime Minister (Andy Burnham)
His wife, on the other hand is an interestingly shy businesswoman. Enya thinks Marie-France could do with much more exposure to crowds. โ˜บ๏ธ

Yes, it happened in rare interviews... typically her interviews are just identical questions and memorized answers. Her ability to avoid giving a straight answer and just beat around the bush drives me insane.๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคฃ

Haha true, she definitely could do with less memorised answers and more properly answered ones ๐Ÿ˜… but it is still nice to hear Enya say something. โ™ก She has made a few statements in-print, but hasn't audibly spoken to fans since 2019 ๐Ÿฅฒ

I love that the journalist wasnโ€™t afraid to ask directly about children haha But Enya stayed true to style. So many words, so much smoke and absolutely no substance. A complete masterclass in evading personal questions.

I actually don't remember that interview (just Enya's outfit and that setting, but different interviewer). โ˜บ๏ธ Do you know which interview he said was 20 years before?

So many words, so much smoke and absolutely no substance.
You mean that about Enya or the interviewer? ๐Ÿ˜… I get what she's saying in general, she didn't intentionally avoid having children, it just wasn't a desire of hers for most of her adult life. Whenever it was, she probably felt she was too busy.

Also some of the 'women are made to have children/she's a witch' comments on that :gross:๐Ÿ™ƒ

Interestingly I had a dream earlier where Enya was surprisingly direct with her answer to a question.

Enya was (in the dream) on BBC Breakfast, supposedly 2008, and Sue Perkins (who presents other stuff but not this show) was presenting by herself with Enya. Instead of the curved red sofa, it was L-shaped and orange. Enya was randomly lying down with her feet facing the crew/audience, but it was a distant shot. Sue asked Enya "are you sapphic, Enya?" and Enya sat up, and happily replied "I am, actually". ๐Ÿฉท

Enya saw a dupe jacket in Penneys a few years ago; it reminded her of this premium tailored one she had here :disco:

Enya has found it rather thought-provoking seeing all these politicians walking into number 10 Downing Street, especially after PM Andy Burnham's hopes to change things, far away from Thatcherism (apparently biggest changes since the 1980s).
"Generations-old potentates and politicians have reduced the whole nation to beggary." ~ Enya, 1988
Enya just hopes things actually improve (and that she won't still be thinking the statement above applies 40 years later) ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Talking about 40 years later, a re-release of Enya's first single I Want Tomorrow (and official video on her channel) would be nice to see in March 2027  โšก๏ธ๐ŸŽผ

Enya wanted to find the song that was #1 in the Irish music chart on her date of birth, but was reminded that she is older than the Irish Charts. ๐Ÿ˜…
Haha oh well

Haha for my birth date, Westlife were #1 in Ireland, and I thought it was that Heaven DJ Sammy version for ages, but it was also Westlife at #1 in the UK. : D

Enya does find it sweet that she was at number 1 for almost a month in late 1988, and it happened first in the Irish charts. ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŽถโ›ต๏ธ

Probably not. ๐Ÿ˜…

Learning to swim might've been the most helpful  ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
[...]
These are the quotes I've seen Enya mention swimming/being scared at the beach/it being her biggest mistake not learning to swim as a child (as of 1989)
โ˜บ๏ธ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ

(As someone who regularly went indoor swimming between ages 6-16, the instructors did say swimming's much harder to learn/keep up as an adult; Enya probably knew that too. โ˜บ๏ธ Older people who could swim generally seemed much slower/often kept their head above the water.)

It's strange that she's afraid of water and being on the beach, considering she grew up near one.

I can only imagine what it took for her to take this photo.๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜…

I forgot where but Enya said something like "I did whatever I could to sell Watermark" so had to face her fears at some point. โ˜บ๏ธ

I think when she says afraid of water probably means large bodies of water (lakes, the sea, reservoirs etc.). ๐ŸŒŠ The fear probably comes from knowing people in the community who died at sea (mostly older fishermen, but also people who don't know how to swim/stay afloat, or shocked by the cold temperature in warm weather). ๐Ÿ’ญ

Enya probably got into Chinese traditional medicine at some point in the 2000s, which inspired her to take up both tai chi and drinking hot water every morning (which was mentioned in this 2008 100q interview).๐Ÿ’ก

Edit: found it again

There was this Madonna-related discussion in 2024 (admittedly I didn't know much of her music besides the 80s and early 90s hits)
Does Enya like Madonna?
AFAIK, this is the only time she ever actually talked about Madonna:

Sunday Tribune (Ireland) - 3 Nov 1991

remembered this later (2005) interview question, where Enya was asked more specifically about Madonna

Her answer's rather cool:laugh:

If Enya were to answer in more detail, I imagine "I'm aware of her success... a couple of her songs had a nice melody, the Spanish one...
I imagine into the late 90s and 2000s, Enya changed her perspective on Madonna as a musician and artiste (and possibly with Kylie Minogue and Sabrina Salerno too) ๐Ÿ’—

Enya now rolls her eyes at the 'prone to men's desires' thing she said. She still is; it's men who collect Enya's photos for displays, and it was a few men who ended up stalking her to a nightmarish extent. If a woman or non-binary person tried to, she'd know how to restrain them first. :D ๐Ÿชขโœจ

Enya has considered dressing up as Elvira for Halloween (and is honoured to be listed right below her in this) :disco:๐Ÿ–ค
Enya is thrilled at the thought that she could (someday, one hopes) do something like this too:

She supposes if anyone, that iffy, notoriously traditional segment of her fanbase (which often encompasses the far-right-wing idiots) could gladly leave. :)

Enya, come on now, make that coming out! Socials will go down, fans will cry out of pure emotion, and Sail Away will soar through the charts. Everyone wins! ๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks for sharing this interview, it was so interesting! I wonder who told her that her music is sexy haha (I agree either way)

You're welcome! ๐Ÿ˜Š I think it was those Watermark interviews, notably one tabloid that gets blocked here.
She was shy and defensive about it at first..! โ˜บ๏ธ

Enya was up at the break of dawn; there was blue in the sky...

Also taking place in Glasgow, Enya has enjoyed watching the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony this evening, especially the bit where they were singing the waulking song that inspired her song Ebudae ๐Ÿคฉ ๐Ÿงถ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽถ :scotland:

Enya found it intriguing to hear a ballad-choral version of the Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) covered by Nina Nesbitt and the Madrigirls. She now imagines an EDM mix of Orinoco Flow next time Ireland host some international event. :D

Either way, the late 80s are coming back, and En will (eventually) be here for it :disco: ๐ŸŽถโœจ๏ธ

I wonder why she doesn't consume dairy products?
One reason is that she doesn't want it to impact her voice (phlegm and things maybe).
1784913930017.png

I don't think wine's good for the voice. :D

Another reason might be along the lines of the fried egg thing. ๐Ÿ˜…
"Enya gets the shits if she eats fried eggs" absolutely sounds like something we'd have speculated in these hallowed pages if given long enough

Enya has got into Bovril, Vegemite and Marmite hot drinks instead of chilled wine.

(I haven't tried the other two but love Marmite ๐Ÿ˜‹ as both a spread and drink)

Enya has been cast in Elon Musk's all AI version of The Odyssey as all of the sirens.

And on a warm summer night like this the castle feels so oppressive she stares at the walls she can hear them whispering the stories of scenes they have witnessed many lifetimes ago

She feels like a jewel trapped in the rock waiting to be discovered not a diamond nothing so vulgar an emerald maybe an emerald Irish green

She dons her black cape and hood and slips out into the darkness the castle grounds the key in the lock in the small door in the high high wall

And then she is free the darkness surrounds her the stars the sounds of the night flow over her flow into her she is the night

She lies on her back in the meadow the ground still warm from the sun her arms stretched her palms to the earth she feels her heart beat she feels the moonlight pass through her through her arms through her hands

She feels the life the tiny lives the tree roots talking underground they talk of seasons of weather they talk of floods of droughts of news from far away in space and time

She feels the grass flattened by the lovers oh to be there once again but there is a season there is a season for everything we are here in our autumn and winter is surely on the way we must prepare as best we can

She feels the river the drops of water so young so playful on the mountain side now so sedate as they approach the end of their journey what will become of them

And across the river the churchyard she extends with trepidation some nights the bones are restless they dance and the smiling skulls jeer they cry where is the baby Enya where are the children where is our future we suffered we struggled see how have you rewarded us but tonight there is a stillness and the bones rest

Then in the house next the churchyard there he is the dark mist is around him she knows what this means there is nothing she can do once as a child she believed she had this power what child with an imagination would not who would forget the day they realised they were mistaken

There is a sudden sound Orinoco Flow it is her phone it is Graham Norton inviting her for a pie and a pint at Old McGuffys she gets up and wonders where her boob tube is

414 fascinating words @Shirley :disco: (and it kind of makes more sense than 1000w+ fanfic haha)
1970 clip (hopefully that's Eithne on the left). Bairbre Toibรญn the winner (twice En's age at the time..!) later became a historical author.

Little Eithne applauds nervously. โ˜บ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘

Enya might not do a typical autobiography, but could get a few ghostwriters to write her some semi-autobiographical accounts, compile them in a huge book, and her favourites will have gold-edged pages to them. โœจ
