Oh Les Dennis would be a strong comedy old duffer, although I'd not rule him out from being quite good. I assumed he'd already done it tbh (ditto Bobby Davro and Joe Pasquale, who google tells me did 'Dancing On Ice' instead)

Very true though, yes, I think Nige is likely to escape - he's famous for way more, and yeah he could be a middle england fave. And he probably won't be AS amazing now he's knocking 50.

I've just done some EXTENSIVE RESEARCH on this and it looks as though the Mail was first to leak both names. The headline they went with for Layton was "Strictly risk new cheat claims after signing West End star and professionally trained dancer Layton Williams" whereas Nigel got "Downton Abbey baddie Nigel Harman is set to star on Strictly". Because we all remember him from Downton, don't we :eyes:

The piece then goes on to say how handsome he is, and how he won't fall victim to the Strictly curse because he's "happily married", which seems watertight to me. I'd bet 50 quid the story come straight from Nigel's camp.

I was getting confused between Les Dennis and Keith Chegwin as it made me google that did-it-really-happen naked game show from way back. Oh well, I won't make my pixelated fig leaf remark. Maybe next series.
 
Cheggers is another Les Dennis-adjacent person who Dancing On Ice snapped up too

With Bradley Walsh too rich to have to bother with this type of thing, the only one Strictly has managed to get over the years is Brian Conley I think?
 
For someone who wants a dialogue it sounds like she's made up her mind. Thought she came across quite strangely on The One Show.

Angela said she knew she wasn't going to win but wanted to stay in a couple of weeks at least. She was at pains to say she can't move like she used to, which wasn't helped by them having an apparently recent clip of her doing the splits cued up.

Layton was trying the 'my musical theatre dance background might actually be a disadvantage' angle.
 
Should I know Amanda Abbington from anything? I can only think of some dodgy channel 5 drama and that she is married to a stunt man that was on BGT?
 
Why do I keep thinking of Angela Rippon from Come Dancing? She was involved in some way, no?

She was in Sherlock and previously married to Martin Freeman.

Edit: Blackpool as her leaving week was fitting; it was lovely watching Angela and Kai 🤗

New Adventures is not a show, it is literally the name of world famous choreographer Matthew Bourne's dance company

We usually get either a current or former soap star too. Not sure if Amanda fits that bill?
 
There is almost always an Eastender. Since Shona McGarty is frequently rumoured but now she’s definitely leaving the show, she could be a possibility.

Bobby Brazier feels more likely. The BBC will want to push him as a new rising star, AND he's got a tabloid-friendly backstory
 
Although that press release is written in a way that says “BLACK PEOPLE WILL HAVE HEARD OF HIM” so apologies if I’m being culturally insensitive
 
The Abbington story is rumbling on but in more positive news there were a couple of announcements today (both previously rumoured):
