I missed ALL THIS :D

I assume this was the album to accompany Flatline that never was? Why are they just shoving it out now, is it so they can move on and release a brand new album? :o

I shall listen to this and report back.

Correct, and probably!

Look forward to hearing your thoughts as long as I like them

I. LAY. DOWN.

I Love Flirting GIF

I really need to do this in the cold light of day don't I? Because I've not ever actually listened to any of these beyond Flatline. This is ALL NEW MUSIC FOR ME.

@dUb right now

Well this is a FUN listen so far

Loving Love Me Hard and Summer of '99. Up to the very slinky Metal Heart

I disagree that "Only You" has no place on an album that also features "Boys." I'd like to hear a version of "Great Escape" without the putrid Paul Oakenfold production. It could be a strong summer track.

It feels a little bit sparse at the end and maybe needs something else there?

Siobhan's friend said that there was a countermelody towards the end of "No Regrets," as in their acoustic performance of the song, but they didn't use it for this release. Pity.

I've realised that I'm Alright triggers a Pavlovian response in me, as the sound of the organ at the start just made me spontaneously WELL UP immediately

I'm curious to hear from people who don't like it

I've seen one person call it "a tedious listen" elsewhere

@Suomi you've been very quiet :eyes:

This is REALLY GOOD. Here and there it still sounds a little unpolished but the songs and vocals are there. I like it as an unheralded release. If they can organise themselves to do physicals they can do a 'by popular demand' run later.

I had listened to most of these demos I think, but not much more than once or twice - I played Love In Stereo rather more heavily and think that would have been an outlier here.

No Regrets is probably the one. Love Me Hard, I'm Alright and Beat Is Gone are my other favourites. I do agree the production/mixing on the chorus of Summer of '99 could pop a little more but it is a great song and has a different energy to everything else here.

Boys could easily be a lost Taller In More Ways mid-album BOP. it's so 80s, very Joy Division (the song) with a little Red Dress energy for good measure. best chorus yet.

the BVs in the last chorus even sound like Heidi :eyes:

There are a few bits during the album that I thought sounded a bit Heidi-esque. I'm not sure it is that Siobhan's voice isn't so far away or more that they use her backing vocals in a similar way.

There seems to be a little vocal flub in I’m Alright at around 3:04 when they go “I’m moving on, I’m in a better place” and the next line is “the only thing I see is the light” but Mutya does a little “a!” before it as if she was going to sing a word beginning with A

The more I think about this though, they really are the dumbest band of all time.

Wait 8 fucking years to release it then release it with no fanfare and when no one will listen to it because they’re all listening to Christmas music. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

(Almost as dumb as releasing Flatline MIDWEEK so it only got half the sales of a normal new release… which I honestly cannot ever comprehend.)

it's a Christmas gift. it's not that deep! their fanbase (who are the only people even vaguely interested in this) will drop EVERYTHING to listen to it WHENEVER... as we did last night at midnight.

I also imagine they'll want to save the fanfare for when they have new music. This is lovely to have, but I imagine they wouldn't want to come back with songs recorded a decade ago.

It’s obviously not that deep but they really don’t understand how to market ANYTHING. They could have been so much bigger over the years but have got things wrong over and over again.

If they wanted to be bigger, they'd have let Polydor steer them towards David Guetta collabs back in the day. The suits weren't interested in the album they wanted to release.

My first listen take

05 Drum
10 Flatline
06 Love Me Hard
03 Summer Of 99
06 Boys
08 Metal Heart
08 Beat Is Gone
07 No Regrets
07 Today
07 Victory
07 I'm Alright
05 I Lay Down
07 Back In The Day

Nothing really jumped out to be honest. A lot of it is nice enough. Just not very urgent and a bit safe. I probably expected more. It does get better after a rocky start though.

How do we ban posts?

(But to be fair lots of 7s is acceptable I guess it’s just it would be lots of 8s for me)
