MORBID QUESTION, but is anyone noticing a lot of deaths from this nasty cold that is going around? I was at 2 funerals this week, both people my mother’s age who had been fighting cancer but then got this nasty cold virus and died within days. I have just came off the phone to a friend in Scotland who told me they had to turn her Mothers life support machine off and she passed away after an hour. She has just had a baby and her parents live in the West Indies. A few days after them getting back to Scotland and meeting her baby girl her mum became really unwell and was blue lighted to a hospital in Edinburgh and is now dead. She had just turned 60 and had no underlying health conditions and was fit and healthy.

I don’t know if it is just in Scotland and Ireland and would assume it is likely to be lot more widespread. I know people are more likely to pass in the Winter with cold or flu but even throughout COVID I didn’t hear of this many people. I think it must be around 8 people in the past fortnight that I have heard passing away through this “horrible cold going around at the minute”.:zombie:
 
Might be some sort of tail from the pandemic that's fucked people's immune systems. There will be excess deaths stats soon that will show whether it's actually happening or you're just in an unlucky group/the natural consequence of getting older.
 
Both of my bases are tiny populations. Here in Ireland a population of around 1000 in the nearest town and in Scotland maybe 4/5000. I would be very interested to see if deaths have gone up. Has anyone else heard of similar where you are? I was wondering if it is a nasty strain of covid or something that we aren’t getting told about. I remember a “terrible cold” at the back end of 2019 which turned out to be COVID.

I’ll be interested to see the stats. It’s quite scary.
 
I'm aware of a lot of general illness around here, but don't think it's particularly above the seasonal norm in terms of deaths. Usually it's the kind of thing I'd hear spoken about in surgery if it was.

I've heard of two people from school my age who have died so far this year though. That's one cancer and one heart attack.

The two my Mothers age both had cancer, but were still going about life although were getting treatment so a bad cold strain must have wiped out their already almost non existent immune systems after Chemo.
 
I have just remembered another woman I knew of in Scotland ended up on life support after catching this cough that turned to pneumonia. She has went from someone who went to the gym/running or fitness classes every single day to getting breathless walking to the toilet. She is mid 50’s and will never get back to what she was before.

Turns out I needed it more than I expected. Much better than our usual one. Bit annoyed we didn't book the stunning restaurant, but regardless I feel insanely relaxed.
 
I love a spa. Was never that interested when I was younger but age has shown it’s a necessary bit of self care. We try to go somewhere once every couple of months.

Just got in from our Sunday sound bath too.
