It was hardly a storyline, more a teaser between two episodesBuddha said:

its mentioned a gazilllion times that there are other hellmouths! Most notably in Cleveland. In "Anne", its mentioned that Giles goes around the country to various hellmouths to see if she's there, and in "The Wish" he is seen on the phone saying 'Yes I am aware there is a lot of demonic activity in Cleveland'

After going through all the Angels again, have decided that Season 2 is my fave.
As for Buffy, I just love 5... Glorificus is awesome! Then again I love 6 for the trio and Willow. Also 2 for Spike and Dru getting regular ... oh and you have to have 3 for Faith!

The 'Giles as First' thing was teased for a few episodes and took up much of the story of one. I'll have to check out those episodes to see the hellmouth thing, which would be one less bug about the episode, though it's still a bug about the series - the early series was *definitely* based around the premise that sunnydale sat atop *the* hellmouth.

#3 - Season 2
Cordelia: "Eww! Why is it that every conversation you people have has the word corpse in it?"
This season was the shows make-or-break moment. The first season was a fun romp through horror high, but at just twelve episodes it didn't, and wasn't really meant to, go into any real emotional depth with its characters. Perhaps Joss Whedon thought that it was important to establish that this season would be different when he opened with "When She Was Bad", a highly strung, emotional episode which deals with the unresolved baggage of the first season's closer. The episode is generally unpopular with fans, arguing that "Some Assembly Required" would have been a more appropriate and fun start to the show; but I disagree because I think the opening episode of this season set up some much needed themes for later: the relationship between Ms. Calendar and Giles, the fact that now Angel and Cordelia were very much part of the Buffyverse, the complex relationship between Willow and Xander...and it acts as a prophetic warning to Buffy fans to not expect much from any opening episode of 'Buffy' seasons! (let's be honest here, 'When She Was Bad, Buffy vs Dracula, Bargaining'...not GREAT are they?)
Season two is probably the landmark 'Buffy' season because it is the point where you probably got hooked onto the show. It maintains a balance between the fun of the first season and the sort of emotional depth of later season, resulting in a big mesh of Buffy goodness. One of the key elements to it's success was by blowing the conventional archetype Big Bad we saw in season one out of the water by introducing baddies that played on the same pitch as Buffy. The Master was a great villian, played well enough to be considered both scary and funny, but living down below the earth wasn't exactly threatening, was it? Now with Spike and Drusilia, from the moment they come crashing into the school halls in "School Hard" (best Buffy fight scene ever?) we know that these villians like to get up close and personal. The chemistry between Spike and Drusilia was unbeatable, I'd certainly rather have them as Couple of the Year than the spazzy sappy Buffy/Angel duo!
Drusillia exhibited a sort of unhinged madness that contrasted well with Spike's down to earth and raw agression. Joss was clever to introduce baddies who were characters and not just all out pantomime evil.
By far the biggest plot twist in 'Buffy' history came with Angel turning evil. His doppelganger Angelus would go on to used on and off right up to the fourth season of 'Angel' itself. "Innocence" marks the start of this plot and is notoriously Joss Whedon's favourite episode. Whedon argues that this episode marks the point where he knew he had great actors and the potential to make something very special was there. The episode IS very good, with Willow shining in particular with a tearful attack on Xander for kissing Cordelia. This is repeated in Season 3 when she realises that Xander slept with Faith and she goes to the toilet to cry it out.
The episode has some great great dialogue in it, combining both humour and emotion - indeed, I'd say it's the first genuinely 'reach for your hankies' type Buffy episode (unless of course you're Delirium who cries if Buffy drops her hat or something) Some of my favourite quotes from the episode:
Willow: Weird? It's against all laws of God and Man! It's Cordelia! Remember? The, the 'We Hate Cordelia' club, of which you are the treasurer.
Cordelia: "This is great. There's an unkillable demon in town, Angel's joined his team, the Slayer is a basket case... I'd say we've hit bottom."
Xander: "I have a plan."
Cordelia: "Oh, no, here's a lower place."
Willow: It just means you'd rather be with someone you hate..than be with me.
Joyce: "So what'd you do for your birthday? Did you have fun?"
Buffy: "I got older."
"Innocence" also contains a rocket launcher and a very good friend of mine pointed out a very good point to me - why doesn't Buffy just keep the rocket launcher and blow up ALL her enemies with it?
The only niggle I have about "Innocence" is that Joss Whedon seems to always slam teens having sex whenever he can. For example, in "Reptile Boy", this episode and "All The Way", these are just a few examples of Joss trying to convey a wider message to his audience.
Another relationship we seem blossom - only to be cut down in its prime - is that between Ms Calendar and Giles. Ms. Calendar just feels like a wasted opportunity to me, her death WAS necessary but there were plans to kill Oz too. Couldn't they have, say, swapped places?
Jenny Calendar was introduced in season one, "I Robot...You Jane" as a computer expert and was blatantly put in just to have a few more characters for the writers to play with. Season two though sees her relationship with Giles grow and it makes the sting of loosing her in "Passion", which is one of my favourite episodes ever, all the more painful. I've already talked about why I love "Passion" so much in my top ten episodes thingy, but just to reiterate FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DIDN'T READ IT 
, it basically feels like one of thefirst "complete" Buffy episodes.
All of the characters grow a LOT in this season, and my main quibble with season three by comparison (which we can do, because 1-3 mark the high school years) is that a lot of the emotional depth is lost. I would say that this is definately a stronger season than my #2, season 7, but I'm ranking them on a personal enjoyment level and so #3 it will have to be.
Oh and shame about Kendra, eh? Still, Bianca Lawson couldn't have kept that ridiculous accent (Is it Jamaican? Irish? English? All 3?) up for much longer, could she?

Probably my favourite Buffy season. We all know Drusilla is my favourite buffy villain ever, and the scene in which we first see Drusilla, toying with the little boy in the playground, is one of the most chilling scenes in the whole show IMO. The Angel/Drusilla releationship was wonderful and I really wish it could have been explored in more depth. The scene where Angel has to explain to Buffy about his relationship with Dru is another dark highlight for me, and i adored the flashback scenes between them. It's a real shame that after about halfway through season three Drusilla became a bit of a throwaway character. I find her far more interesting than Spike, although of course she could NEVER have been integrated into the show the way he was, nor should she have been.

I haven't seen Season Two in ages. I must watch again. Cordelia became one of my favourite (ever) Buffy characters because of this season. In fact... top 5 Buffy characters:
1. Anya
2. Cordelia
3. Faith
4. Vampire Willow
5. Robot Buffy
Topless Riley does deserve a mention even though his character was rubbish.

Oh I loved loved loved the opening episode of season seven! The dialogue was brilliant (I especially loved the exchanged between Buffy and Dawn at the beginning), all the little nods to previous series were a fan's dream and the final scene was ALKFLAIDFHLSDGSGNSGNSNS!

God bloody knows, IT'S SO ANNOYING. On the PLUS side, I shoved in an old t-shirt that had a similar stain which resisted multiple washes, and which i had long given up on, and the stain came out! Hooray!

I never got the Dawn hatred. Sure, she's annoying but I kinda thought that was the point of her character.
I loved the fact that Willow being gay was hinted at with vampire Willow.

ANGEL: "Well... actually..."
BUFFY: *evil glare*

I'm enjoying this thread immensely. I need to see season 7 again. Its the only season that I have only seen once. My memory of it is hazy and therefore I would place it quite low down. That said,, I recently re-watched season six which I had held in low regard for quite some time. It actually has some fantastic episodes and is not nearly as patchy as I'd recalled.
I have also recently watched angel season 2 again and it was even better than I remember. The Darla/Dru team episodes are some of my favourite episodes ever.
