The way the casting and screen testing for this film has been shared so publicly over the past few days has felt so strange.

Of the three that got leaked (and seemingly had to all DRESS UP AS SUPERMAN to audition for James Gunn at the weekend) I definitely favour Corenswet over Nicholas Hoult or yer man from Grantchester. And to me he feels like a better Superman choice than Henry Cavill did, too.

Not entirely related, but the new anime-inspired series My Adventures With Superman is really cute and strikes the sort of tone I'd love this new film (and the new DC universe in general) to have. The first episode is available for free on YouTube:

I liked Henry visually but he’s not a great actor so we will see how this guy does.
I see the red trunks are back. It seems like a mixture of the New 52 Jim Lee design and some classic elements like the underwear on the outside.
I kind of wish they would concentrate on different characters because they have done Superman and Batman to death but they are the cash cows so it makes sense.

I rather liked this! Not an all timer, but better than other recent superhero films. Didn't fall into the usual trap of being too fucking long with an interminable final CGI battle either.
I thought Corenswet was great, but I still don't have a strong sense of him in the role. It's an odd choice to introduce him beaten to shit and have relatively large periods of the film with him similarly weakened. I thought Lois was terrific.
I quite liked Clark's Earth parents, but did they not want to pick actors who might STILL BE ALIVE for any sequels?? Feels a bit shortsighted
It also didn't feel like the start of a new era for a franchise. The number of superhumans and unhinged elements of plot definitely felt more like a later sequel where things go off the rails a bit and they have things like a superhero dog and lots of other heroes rocking up etc. But not necessarily in a bad way.
I also liked how sincere a lot of it was, and without Marvel-y wisecracks.
Oh and I wonder at what point the Studio bosses realised the fictional states were registering very much as Israel and Gaza and started to shit themselves?

With the way Superman was portrayed, it kind of felt like one really long comedy sketch. And there was just too much going on all at the same time.
I enjoyed it though, and the casting of Lois and Jimmy were perfect. Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern was hysterical. But he was only in it as Clark Kent for all of a couple of minutes, which was a bit disappointing.

Opened to a worldwide box office of $217 million, will likely need to make $750 million to be considered a success.
I absolutely hated this! It felt like a random episode of one of those cheap superhero TV shows you stumble across on E4. I hated almost everything about it, but the score in particular was atrocious. It sounds like it was thrown together on a laptop in a few days. But the film itself was completely devoid of excitement or tension. The humour was juvenile. The plot and direction were feeble and the CGI was subpar. There was absolutely no sense of wonder or a single "wow" moment. Is this really what passes for good cinema these days?

At least it wasn't as DREARY as the majority of post-Reeves Superman movies tend to be, but by God was it on the nose in places.
Nicholas Hoult's characterisation of Lex Luthor was basically the bald JD Vance meme applied to Elon Musk.
The guy who played Superman was fine, I guess. It’s a thankless role, but he was at least less wooden than the dreadful Henry Cavill.
I spent most of the runtime being distracted by the genuinely awful WIGS. What was with that one random blonde woman who had about 2 lines of dialogue but was constantly in the background looking like post-transition Aja from Drag Race Allstars?!

This was good fun, I enjoyed it far more than recent iterations of Superman. I liked the cameos from John Cena and Bradley Cooper. Genuinely hope it's a success and they can build a fun franchise from it, with Supergirl next year and possible sequels.
It was quite funny how unreactive the people of Metropolis were to the destruction happening around them though.
