15 years ago and more, Waitrose used to be supreme all around. In terms of availability of more obscure ingredients, it's still very good but the quality of M&S far exceeds it now on ALL levels

Of preprepared meals, I find theirs to be underseasoned and generally flavourless. I'd rather get a Sainsbury's ready meal than a Waitrose one.

It shocks me just how much their quality has dropped across the board. Even their sandwiches are sub-standard!

They had partnerships with Delia and Heston - everything seemed to be a bit more high end then. They think they can continue to charge elevated prices based on name alone but in my opinion M&S have left them in its dust.

While we're talking about supermarkets, can I just say WHY OH WHY OH WHY have M&S decided to put their most expensive fresh pizzas in packaging with greyscale photography? It makes everything look so unappetising. I'd be surprised if their pizzas weren't very good, but photos of grey tomatoes aren't selling it to me.

M&S has better butter chicken than most Indian restaurants around here. Well, the sauce is better, the chicken is rubber.

Why are we judging prepared meals when we've been fisting ourselves over pizza in the last week? Mopsy have a word.
Every once in a while a ready made meal is a necessity.

Anyway M&S pizzas can DO ONE since they put them up to £14 from £12 for two and a couple of sides that you don't really even want (apart from that one time in Ocado when they were including HALF BOTTLES OF CLARET)

I think preprepared meals are fine on occasion? In fact I'd much rather it to various takeaways.

Besides M&S Is practically 60% preprepared - that's where they have earned their reputation.

You know until I actually went into a Waitrose I always thought it was much more like M&S with a much bigger focus on its own brands but nah just sells the brands with a smattering of its own ranges like any other supermarket.

1. Sainsbury’s - I’m a nectar slut. And I find the range vs price vs quality the best of them all. My only for a weekly shop.

2. M&S - unbeatable for picky bits, treats etc.

3. Lidl - good for the cheap top-up shop and spending less on shit you don’t care about as far as branding etc goes.

4. Tesco - Sainsbury’s but worse, but still fine for a weekly shop if needed.

5. Waitrose - the quality is good, and some interesting products. But if I’m going fancy pants I’d rather M&S.

Just hear to say that Aldi has absolutely top notch none better Rosemary crackers if you fancy a tasty bargain.

Well Asda is only a 2 minute walk from where I live so that is the one I go to most often.

I don't know about top 5 favourites but most visited probably Sainsbury's, Lidl, Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi in that order. Iceland when there was one (became a larger Lidl store). I predominantly went to Lidl and Savers at uni (just once to M&S haha, a small shop).M&S food hall is very nice and all, especially around Christmas, but not a go-to throughout the year.

Asda and Waitrose are the ones I've hardly been to
Also I remember and quite liked Netto

Of the German two, more Aldi recently; Lidl has gone downhill, including the bakery. I did go to Lidl most during my time in uni. I miss when it felt more like a cosy local store. Morrisons is hit and miss with the warm food. Also Sainsbury's used to do really nice chicken and pizza when it had a café (before the Argos and Starbucks stores joined; the latter I've never purchased from).

Pak Foods and Wing Lee are considered UK supermarkets; ages since I've been inside those two specifically. They're good overall, the Asian and ethnic/world food stores.

I never massively got the appeal of the Lidl bakery anyway, so don't really relate to the gone downhill comments. The only things I used to get from the fresh bit was the occasional item if it was free in the old app loyalty scheme.

And speaking of the loyalty app, that's gone to shit since they relaunched it.

Yes the bakery hype was overstated, particularly in a world where we have Greggs.

I dabbled with Lidl, but it's Aldi every time now. We top with Tesco, occasionally Sainsbury.

Asda can do one.

Yuka has been an eye opener for me. In short, Tesco is not great for additives in their fresh food and groceries. Morrisons is, surprisingly, much better.
