Do you want tags to return?

Nobody else is starting one and they are getting mentioned left right and centre. Do you want tags to return? I am only doing a yes or no poll just now but if you want tags to return with certain conditions please feel free to state in this thread.

I have missed tags a LITTLE. I can think of perhaps two or three occasions since we got rid when I've thought I'd like to leave a tag or see what tags a thread might get.
 
It would be a no in the old form. But a yes if members could see who was writing them, better moderation (again more mods could solve this) etc.

It’d be great to get @Shirley back but it’d also be ideal to come to a solution that would see the return of other members that left over the issue.

And on a personal note I’ve not particularly missed them either, but then I’ve not been living with them for years.
 
I didn't want them gone. Now that they are gone, I don't want them back.

I don’t think it is. It’s a yes or no question and as I stated if you would like conditions attached feel free to air them which you have.

That's fine, I just question the validity of it, and don't want my yes or no vote to count either way.
 
The only time I’ve thought about tags recently has been situations of disagreement/conflict and it’s very much been a case of ‘I’m glad they’re gone’.

They were the absolute worst of Moopy when anonymous. There’s one in particular that to this day pops into my head when I’m feeling bad about myself so I’m a definite No if they were to come back as was.

Up for a trial if they’re public though.

It actually still riles me that we still likely have that person amongst us.

I have been waiting for this discussion to happen and have this proposal for the return of tags...



If an inappropriate tag is spotted this should be reported to an admin or mod.

The tag should not be removed until the person behind the tag has been identified.

Once they have been identified and a note made of the content of the tags, the tag be can removed and the issue discussed in the mod forum.

How the issue is dealt with by mods, should essentially depend on these elements:

1. Is the tag racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic?

2. Could the tag be considered to be bullying?

The definitions of both of these need to be discussed. In terms of bullying, is there a campaign on the forum, in PMs, on statuses and in tags of harassment? Has the issue been raised before? How is the tag understood by the victim?

In terms of the tags containing bigotry, broad guidelines could exist regarding these for behaviour in tags, on the forums etc.

Again, how the mods wish to deal with the tagger based on that information is probably best dealt with as a case by case thing. Issues of repeat behaviour and severity could be considered.

Just an idea but revealing the tagger publicly could be saved for times when banning is necessary. Is a one-off event enough to justify naming them? I’m probably jaded by my own experience here.

Contentious issue, but I’d imagine only new tags, i.e. tags that have appeared on topics created since the new rules came in should apply.

If you want to know WHY we need rules? Well its important we’re all on the same page and that the same process can be applied each time.
 
I don't think visible tags is the way to go. Rather a proper process as I have outlined above.

It still places the onus on the person targeted to spot it, read it and get hurt, then to go about reporting it.

I personally don't want them back but if they were public that wouldn't be as bad. I still think /suspect some people would continuously pick at others throw small insults using them, private or not, but maybe I'm just weaker skinned.
 
I would want them back, but properly policed and preferably not anonymous.
 
That's all well and good in theory @Ag but you're not one of the people who had to try and have those discussion while the rabble was at full tilt and half the forum thought you were wrong whichever way you went. While you were at work. Doing someone else's job. During lockdown.

No. I'm against them coming back at all. They've had their day.

Why are you against public tags? I ask as someone who only occasionally read them. Does making them public take something away from the process?
