Taylor Swift - Album 7

It’s great, the video is great and the whole thing screams “hit”.

Artistically, yes, it feels like a backward step from “Reputation”, but then that isn’t a massive surprise...

That is a straight-up lie and you know it

But at least she was trying something new with that.

Thanks. I hate it.

I do think her lead singles are usually pretty obnoxious, but this is especially bad.

The dead-eyed mania of it is pretty compelling, she sounds like a recently brainwashed cult member. If I listen to it enough times in a row, will I assassinate the Pope?

Say what you want about Taylor Swift, she certainly knows how to put on a show

But Reputation was not a very good record, so.

1989 is her best album. She remains a repugnant Trump supporter but that album was good.

Do you actually think this or are you fabricating it for fun?

1989 is her best though yes. And Red.

I do believe it. It's very telling the timing of when she chose to come out as a leftie. Her aesthetic is very white. Zero diversity. Her audience is white. Her musicianship is very white. She decided to come out (pun intended) as a so-called liberal when she had a huge fanbase (including a lot of ethnic minorities and gays). Almost as if she was pressured into it. She didn't stick her neck out when it really mattered (i.e. before the whole Trump thing actually happened, when she could have lost fans). You can call me a jaded old brown queen but I don't care. She's not my gay icon. I am not claiming her.

Oh and her music is largely shit too.

Huh? Am I missing something? Didn’t she actually come out against him and as a democrat?

reputation had a lot of good songs - I stand by Getaway Car, This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, Delicate, Gorgeous, Don't Blame Me and the lovely New Year's Day

but it felt like the album that should've come before 1989, not after. I have hope that this album might be more consistently strong

I thought she 'came out' as a Democrat because she'd been adopted as a kind of icon by the online far right, and she wanted to refute that? Can't blame her, really - I can see something like that causing someone to rethink their "I don't talk about politics" position, it would be horrible for your silence to be weaponised by shits.

I also don’t think she HAS to talk about politics.

And as for the “gay icon” thing, she’s LITERALLY put her money where her mouth is on THAT one.

T-Swift is well into that phase of her career where anything she does will be picked on by SOMEONE so she might as well fuck it all off and do what she wants.

The general feeling is that T-Swift was at odds with her label, Big Machine, over Trump and she began to talk once she had negotiated her new deal with Universal. Given that, as Sheena points out, she is someone for whom money and mouth meet, I;m good with her.

It was white when she started and they propped her. Let’s not rewrite history please. Maybe I should have clarified but anyway.

Is anyone rewriting history bar you? :D

This is like that time that RUBBISH GAI accused Kylie of not supporting gay marriage and everyone laughed at him.

I agree. And as one of the few remaining pop stars who can churn out a million sales of her album in a week, I’d almost say it’s in her interest NOT to lean either way, as much as people might be desperate for her to.

What's this, Suedey deciding the outcome he wants, and then creating back stories to get there?

Is it because of the new Madonna album? He need to balance the Force by shitting on someone else?

Pop stars talking about politics is always boring and pointless anyway. Are there really enough people out there who are so insecure about how the media they consume makes them look that they need reassurance Taylor Swift voted for Hillary?

I'm not especially a fan of her music, but anyone who (sincerely, not out of being biblically saved by Madonna) believed that she was some covert white nationalist despite the fact she spends most of her time hanging out with awful liberal celebrities like Lena Dunham is a credulous, hysterical moron.

Well, no-one wants cancelled for liking the wrong artist.
