Taylor Swift - evermore

I'm ready for my first rate...

08 Willow
07 Champagne Problems
10 Gold Rush
10 Tis the Damn Season
08 Tolerate it
06 No Body, No Crime
08 Happiness
08 Dorthea
06 Coney Island
06 Ivy
08 Cowboy Like Me
08 Long Story Short
08 Marjorie
07 Closure
07 Evermore

Overall it's pretty even with Folklore... it actually feels more diverse in sound and a bit less samey. However it doesn't quite have an 11/10 moment like "Seven" on here though. Plenty of growers.

Hiya so I had a listen and while this is subject to change the ones I really quite liked were;

No Body, No Crime
Dorothea
Cowboy Like Me

My high school boyfriend was showing me some song and I felt like it was too avant-garde and cool for me to get, but actually he had just not plugged the headphones in and it was the sound of feedback
:D

Hun I have plenty of music that sounds JUST LIKE THAT if you’re ever in the mood.

no body, no crime is ridiculously good. if she's smart she'll push it at country radio and get the sisters in a video (now they both have Grammy nominated albums). it's almost giving me a little of Carrie's Before He Cheats with that dark underbelly and the tongue-in-cheek subject matter.

and cowboy like me is so gorgeous. I think a lot of the album could've benefitted from leaning musically into country a little more, the way this does. also obsessed with evermore.

this album is revealing itself really nicely.

I've only listened to the album once while I was working on Friday but no body, no crime definitely stood out. The verses in particular are quite reminiscent of Before He Cheats.

as a huge Folklore stan who took months to fully appreciate its magesty im not calling anything at this point, but I think this has potential to really stand up next to it when all is said and done?

willow gets better with every listen.

also I’m surprised you guys are sleeping on the closing four tracks. Long story short, Marjorie, closure and evermore is a gut punch. Marjorie in particular feels so restrained and simple, but cuts through like a knife. The production is beautiful too with bon iver’s backing vocals.

If I didn’t know better,
I’d think you were talking to me now
If I didn’t know better,
I’d think you were still around

:emoji_cry:

it doesn't feel to me like music to stomp to, but if it's got you feeling all stompy then I'm certainly happy for you

I'm off for a wander in the drizzle for my first listen. Will that suit?

dorotheeeeeeee-aaa,
a-aah

out of Charmbracelet, American Life, Body Language, 2.0 Y.O and all other major pop girlies' 9th studio albums, Taylor is so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere.

Not objectively, but in terms of me actually wanting to listen to it

82 American Life
77 Body Language
64 evermore
51 Charmbracelet
34 20 Y.O (Never heard it to be fair)

This album is slowly revealing itself to me. I now love Champagne Problems, Gold Rush and No Body No Crime. I still think Exile is the best Taylor track of the year however.

How is this the bish that shat out Me! and You Need To Calm Down a year ago?

However it doesn't quite have an 11/10 moment like "Seven" on here though.

OK I take this back, "Tis the Damn Season" is my 11. This whole bit SENDS ME:

Sleep in half the day
Just for old times' sake
I won't ask you to wait
If you don't ask me to stay
So I'll go back to LA

And the so-called friends who'll write books about me if I ever make it
And wonder about the only soul who can tell which smiles I'm faking
And the heart I know I'm breaking is my own...
To leave the warmest bed I've ever known...

We could call it even...
Even though I'm leaving

easter egg time! do the girls think willow stands for William Bowry? Taylor has confirmed the alias to be her dreamboat endgame Joe Alwry, who's co-written exile, betty, epiphany, champagne problems, coney island and evermore.

i don't want to DP the gif but that beauty gave her dick and four Grammy nominations...

But he also inspired 'London Boy' so...

Sonically, I think it's a pretty damn gorgeous album. Not really diving into lyrics and stuff yet but I put it on twice today when I sat down to plan things for work. Not saying it's great "background music" cause there is no more backhanded praise but I can see myself playing this A LOT.

Biggest female debuts on the US Spotify chart in 2020:

#1 the 1 - Taylor Swift 4.2m
#2 cardigan - Taylor Swift 3.9m

#5 the last great american dynasty - Taylor Swift 3.3m

I think I like this album more than folklore. there's another (!) new version of willow today that's lovely.

7.9 from Pitchfork and a glowing review

I think marjorie is now my favourite

i honestly can't stand it anymore. it sadly joins the tier of tracks i love but cannot listen to because they bring me to tears, such as ghostin' (Ariana), Soon You'll Get Better (Taylor), Hurt (Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash), and Bye Bye (Mariah).

and i complained the whole way there
the car ride back and up the stairs
i should've asked you questions
i should've asked you how to be
asked you to write it down for me
should've kept every grocery store receipt
'cause every scrap of you would be taken from me
watched as you signed your name Marjorie
all your closets of backlogged dreams
and how you left them all to me
what died didn't stay dead
what died didn't stay dead
you're alive, you're alive in my head

i hate her.

Marjorie is the best track on the album for me...

But they ALL growing...

Coney Island, Cowboy Like Me, No body no crime, Ivy are the ones I find a bit skippable.

In fact Ivy is really reptitive and annoying.
Coney Island is just DULL. I'm asleep by the time national bloke comes dirging in.
And I find the country twang of no body no crime, and the haim feature a bit irritating.

But actually I take it back on cowboy like me. Listening to it now and it's pretty great.

Growers have been: Dorothea, Champagne Problems, Tolerate It, Happiness, gold rush, tis the damn season, closure. All becoming more distinct and lyrically devastating.

Maintain that long story short, marjorie, closure, evermore feels like a brilliant and pointedly personal closing 4 tracks. marjorie a real centrepiece of the whole thing.
