Opalite is the one that jumped out for me. Dreams in the verses and then the Ronnie bit in the chorus.

RTF’s placing is a bit surprising given that it is in the front half of the album. But I guess we’ll see if things shift over the next few days

It's actually quite sad how she cares about breaking all these records with music that makes no cultural impact

She can break all the records that she wants, but she will never shift or shape culture like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga... Auntie Aretha knew.
 
What's she going for - the Adele first week record?
 
I wouldn't claim Adele had the cultural impact of the examples Loufoque posted, but she did at least have those millions of people wanting to buy her music, rather than tens of thousands of a fanbase practically coerced into getting her there to the record.
 
There weren't any particular variants of 25, were there?

I refuse to post the link from X but this is a girl who posted about receiving every single Showgirl version she bought.

And the hilarious thing about this one? A fan wrote that in a tweet. And she paid the fan a one-off sum of $3000 to use it in the song. She could’ve changed that girl’s life if she gave her a writing credit. But they said “it’s $3000 for us to use it or we’re going to use it any way as it’s fair use”.

Yes - she did 2.7 million on Friday, she wants to top Adele's 3.4 million.

I'm utterly fed up of this kind of marketing. Sabrina Carpenter's current album has 17 variants available in the UK. Jade has 13, if one uncouples signed items from the unsigned versions which I think is fair. It's fucking ludicrous. Plus, these new CDs are £4 LESS than the original! I hate it when indie bands do it too - Suede and James with their "deluxe" downloads for £4.99 that come out on the Monday after release and they're buggers for this kind of behaviour too.
 
After the 'dressing room rehearsal version' (as one of four) on day three I am curious to see what they will pull later in the week to make sure she gets there.

I don't like the endless options either (and am grateful I'm not personally a collector of any act and this wasn't standard when I was), but I hate it even more when further variants are released in same week after people have already bought one (or more), and then that's ramped up even more with these time limited versions.

Pronounced dead on Monday, rises from the dead on Thursday morning with a new "The Death Of A Showgirl" variant.
 
Please explain her appeal. Like really. Because I see nothing interesting about her.

Musically I only ever play Cruel Summer and there's probably about four or five songs I can sing a long to. Not superstar territory.

Do people actually like her voice and teenage dear diary lyrics?
 
I don't consider myself a 'fan' in any strong sense, but I could quite easily do a 20 track playlist of songs I love.

Which I guess is enough to make me a fan to some degree.
 
I think the appeal IS that she isn't as interesting as other pop girls. Despite clearly being the biggest diva of the lot of them, she at least started out presenting as a very normal humble insecure girl, who just happens to have found herself on a big stage. She speaks to and understands Leanne from middle-sized town Ohio in a way that bombastic and theatrical Gagas and Katys and Mileys don't. She speaks to the girls who think of themselves as artsy, but still can't understand a word that Lana spouts. She's HOPE for all of the hopeless getting excited for Pumpkin Spice season. She managed to make a hit with a song called "Cardigan".

She's moving more and more away from that humble image now ("Showgirl" indeed), but can do so safely now that the cult has been long secured.

Yes and it wasn’t on streaming either so those were all purchases.

I'm by no means above taking pot shots at Taylor myself but I think we were all better off when @Visit Cardiff had this forum on ignore so I ask you to do so again. Mods are getting reports about your posts here and whilst obviously no rules are being broken or anything, it is probably worth considering popping it back on ignore once again.
 
I've really enjoyed some of her songs along the way, but considering the amount of music she's put out over the years, I wouldn't say it's a very high percentage score. The main thing is, I'd have to go back and search through some playlists to find the ones I really like. I remember Delicate, and Cardigan. There's definitely more but I just can't remember them. There's probably a lot more artists I sort of like (who aren't anywhere near as famous) where I could remember and name the songs much easier. Odd, considering her songs are always played everywhere.
 
Delicate is a really good example of “this is what this album could have been” - because it’s by the exact same team. It’s hardly a “banger” but it’s a well crafted pop song, something that’s sorely missing here.
