Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl (12th album)

Honestly this album is pure garbage for the most part and I’m not a hater.

At most two keepers (Ophelia and the title track).

omg I absolutely hate Ophelia. what horrible production. a total nothing song.

CANCELLED! 8.5/10

Much more like it even if the chorus is weaker than it should be. The lyrics are a bit farted out. Definitely the most Reputation adjacent, as you'd expect from the title

The algorithm gave me We can’t be friends and Paparazzi afterwards

Spotify thanks for the palate cleanser

I’d say the truth lies between Iguana’s loon fuelled and my hate infused reviews …

Elizabeth Taylor - a much better song (in relative terms) but MAX MARTIN PRODUCED THIS? it sounds like a fucking royalty free cover of Born to Die.

Even the Jackson 5 sample can’t really help Wood
For me it seems like a blatant Shake it Off rewrite attempt but whatevah
I’m sure it’ll be a big hit with the TikTokers
It’s not a sample is it? Going by the writing credits at least

three tracks in and it's already abundantly clear that this is her worst album and a career nadir. the songwriting feels like AI.

life is a song, it ends when it ends

Opalite feels like a mild palette cleanser but why exactly is this album called The Life of a Showgirl again? everything sounds completely mundane

She should’ve gone to Antonoff with these songs.

Why go to a completely different set of producers who are great at big pop if you just wanna do more of the same/soft nothingness with worse, petty lyrics?

The Life of a Showgirl 7/10

Didn't particularly enjoy this as a closer. It gets better when the tempo picks up halfway through but it's not doing very much considering it's the title and final track

Father Figure - this is... ugly. the nerve.

this love is pure profit, just step into my office. ew.

Well this a DUFF of an album.

However I know it will make pleasant relistens and now I know what it is, I'll adjust my expectations. I think it'll grow, but there's very little depth here and depth is what I usually enjoy most in Taylor's music.

Overall: 7/10

I like the storytelling aspects of some of the songs (end the friendship, father figure) but overall it’s a meh album for me

4.5/10

eldest daughter - bland but a little better.

ruin the friendship - finally! something to latch onto. nothing new from a lyrical perspective but this is gorgeous and actually well produced too.

actually romantic - this is the diss track? lol. anemic as shit. let me just listen to This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things instead.

if I was Ariana I'd be (softly) CACKLING that Taylor finally made an album with Max again and it sounds like this after the excellence of their work on eternal sunshine.

I wonder if Max gave Madonna this sort of shit instead of Ariana’s pop bursts on Eternal and thus Madame ran straight back to Stuart price

It’s not even 8 am and this is already a hot gay mess thread on Mopsy

wi$h li$t - Taylor honey what the fuck is this.

they want that contract with Real Madrid,
they want that spring break that was fuckin' lit

I hate when she does these nothingy talk-sung plink-plonk songs with just a couple of melodic harmonies on the last chorus. it's so boring.

I know Moopy is somewhat BRUTAL in its honesty and enjoys the fact but I am starting to wonder if the reason for no single and the intense guarding against leaks is that its a bit shit.

03 - The Fate of Ophelia

...This is Max Martin? Why is it so...uhm...shit?

I already regret starting this

05 - Elizabeth Taylor

Definitely I thought the chorus was fun, I liked the beat. Verses are terrible, and again, why is the production so DULL.

Actually, I wrote that before I got to the middle 8, which makes the rest of the song seem much more exciting in comparison. To think she once managed Out Of The Woods as well...

02 - Opalite

Where are the LAYERS? Why am I suddenly desperately reaching for 143 for Katy Perry just to experience some MUSICAL COMPETENCE?

Well I like the first two songs. That’s as far as I’ve gotten.

And it does always make me laugh when people proclaim things like “career nadir” after one listen :D

Not 143 being like nene now why am I in it
Shots fired

Cancelled - boring, ugly, shockingly defanged for another installment in her arsenal of "bad bitch" /revenge anthems

Honey - oh. I really like this. a second good song!!! mother is so good to us.

It’s better than Tortured Poets
I will say that
