But you’re right- I think it’s my least favourite of their opening four singles.
 
I think I'd rank those first four sturdy floorfillers

  1. Rockin Over the Beat
  2. Pump up the Jam
  3. Get Up (Before the Night is Over)
  4. This Beat is Technotronic - No Ya Kid K, what's the point? Although still quite a BLAST
 
Do you know I never used to like Technotronic

They were part of that Dutch/German dance scene (in sound, I don’t actually know where they’re from) that was away from the Italo and American house that I was loving at the time

But OMG, Jam has really stood the test of time. There’s something so immediate and urgent about it, I can’t believe I used to dismiss it as basic. It’s so SINGULAR (well it was until they released it over and over again under the guise of another single).

I also discovered recently thanks to a TV show (might have been TOTP2) that it actually samples an 80s R&B/dance track. I’m not sure I knew that.
 
Oh my God, the Real McCoy version is terrible. I'm obsessed.

I prefer Get Up mostly because Ya Kid K actually got to perform it when promoting. I never really understood the decisions behind hiring Felly as she was no Katrin Quinol in the performance area. The same for Snap when they chose that strangely stiff woman to front them.
 
10/10 obviously, even when I prefer Get up. Wasn't Move this a UK hit? Also from that album it went top 10 in USA 2 years later because of a Cindy Crawford commercial. Oh the power of those 90s supermodels...

That was the common thing back in the day except for established artists, right? But it's true it usually took longer for European acts to break in the USA.

Which one was the first eurodance hit to open the door for that glorious invasion in the US charts around 92-94? Was it Mr Vain? Or maybe Get ready for this, I can't remember, I have to check this.
 
Checking the list of eurodance hits that went top 40 pop in USA in the early 90s, I didn't remember there were so many, amazing.
 
I seem to recall Get Ready For This charted in the US in about 1995.
 
Get Ready For This is played at every sporting event in the US
 
Also What Is Love is very well remembered and was used in some television advertisement when I was a kid very prominently

Yes, but that was a re-release when it went bigger because US Sports, it was a moderate hit in late 92 or so.

Maybe? I was too young to know then so my reference is more the commercial in the early 2000s
 
the breakthrough dance hits in the US in the 90s was always fascinating and random - like you never knew which ones would break through.

I recall Real McCoy “Another Night” being absolutely fucking massive, even though (while big) the U.K. had much bigger dance hits that year
 
Another night was #3 for ELEVEN weeks in USA, probably still a record for a #3 song.

And yes, some of them where so random, like this one that briefly made some top 40 countdowns, I don't think it was a hit anywhere else, even when it was in the Four Weddings and a Funeral soundtrack, I guess totally eclipsed by that other song.

Yeah the song was used in Revlon ads that were on every 30 seconds it felt like so you couldn’t escape the song.
