Slightly nervous when Cornet broke back but she handled it pretty well.

Cornet did well to get to the semi after going a set and a break down in the first round to Katie Swan.
 
Boulter and Burrage both made the second round. Katie hasn’t beaten a top 100 player since September last year, she has a chance against Tomova to change that. I think the only British player who shoulda woulda coulda won who lost was Dart. I think they should be stingier with the wild cards.
 
Agreed Dart put up a good fight, Heather came too late to the match to challenge but deserves a wild card based on past performance. Isn't Katie already top 100? I thought she just wasn't in the top 100 at the time of the draw, hence the wildcard. Boulter and Watson were kind of done dirty by the points from last year not counting so I wouldn't begrudge their wildcards in the slightest.

Just noticed you typed Katie hadn't beaten a top 100 player, apologies.
 
Easy to think Burrage hadn't made the second round, when she's now out and there are still some round 1 matches yet to be started on day 4. Why the priority isn't to get all round 1 matches completed first seems a bit bizarre?

Still, I'm not complaining about Tsitsipas having to come back today to face Murray, having gone to a fifth set tie-break only yesterday evening.

The scheduling is bizarre. I've got court 1 tickets today and we have bloody ZVEREV's forst round match on there. There are much more appealing second round matches that could be on that court. Garcia/Fernández, Svitolina/Mertens or the other Brit players that aren't on centre court.

Hope you had a fun day. Having a show court ticket gets you ground access too so hopefully you got out and about some of the outside courts.

I mean we literally had 3 of them in the semi-finals of a tour event together and an all-British final for the first time since 1977 two weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that British women's tennis is in an amazing place, but still things change from week to week.
 
The women's side was pretty fair on the Wild Cards - the women who got them were mostly ranked between 100-150. (Kartal was the only one who wasn't and she's very young so seems fair).

Thanks... I didn't actually realise this! So instead of watching the unappealing (bar Vekic/Stephens which was a great match) court 1 line up, we headed straight to court 12 and saw Muchova, Berrettini and Boulter in action.

The atmosphere was amazing with the Broadie and Boulter wins and Murray taking a 2 set lead. Watched most of that match on the outside screen.

I think British women's tennis has a lot to build on. If Radacanu wasn't out with injury, we'd likely have 2 top 70ish players with another handful knocking on the door of the top 100. Between that and their success in the Billie Jean King Cup last year, things are looking better than they have for a while.
 
That hour of tennis where Andy, Cam and Liam got knocked out was BRUTAL. :(

I mean, I expected it with Liam, even when he was 5-2 up in the third set, but still. :bruised:

Totally agree. I was Court One for the same matches. The scheduling was so random! (Plus I reckon we could have got a fourth match in). Sloane was robbed.

Issues on the M1 and M6 means I STILL haven’t seen my sweetheart Carlos play live so far this year.

Agreed... not sure why the Alcaraz match wasn't scheduled for yesterday either, bizarre!

The top four women's seeds have reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009. It feels like there is finally some consistency at the top of the women's game after a strange few years with many one slam wonders.
 
Spoke too soon. Seeds 1 & 4 both out. Svitolina's return from maternity is quite remarkable. QF at French and now SF at Wimbledon.with a good shot at her first slam final. She has beat some tough players on the way too.
 
Pegula really blew a chance to pass the quarters of a slam for the first time (0/7 now). 4-1 up in the third with a point for 5-1 but Vondrousova kept making a nuisance of herself.

Enjoying the resurgence of a more aggressive Svitolina. A good story. Although 1&4 were upset today at least it was by two players who have been in and around the top end of big events in the past.

That is a terrible record in the QFs for Pegula. Not a massive fan of her though tbh. Good to see Svitolina doing so well. Her and Pliskova seemed like they really should have won a slam given their consistent top 5 presence over a similar period.

Pliskova for sure. I’d like to see Svitolina win this but she’s always been a modern Manuela Maleeva, great player but not quite enough for the big prizes. Still rather her than a few of the one off winners.
 
I saw Vondrousova's fourth round match on Court 2 on Sunday. I've never seen such a clearly talented female player be so laidback on the court.

She's made her way very quietly through the draw as she did at the French a few years back. Sad to say I've not seen any of her matches at Wimbledon this year so far.
 
Jabeur deserves to win the title so much. Dismantling Kvitova, coming back from a set down against Andreescu, Rybakina and Sabalenka. Has anyone beat this many slam champions en route to a final before? Phenomenal!
 
I’m sure they have, Serena springs to mind with her first US Open where she beat Conchita Martinez, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis back to back. She also beat Kim Clijsters (who hadn’t yet won a slam) in the 3rd round. Quite a run.

Yep, apparently Serena, Henin and Svitolina at Wimbledon this year also are the only others that have done this. Still a great achievement by Ons.

Literally the most laidback and chilled tennis player I've ever talked to. And that's when she was 17 years old.
