I don’t know why but I always feel absolutely nothing for Sinner :D he doesn’t even look like a tennis player. He is a very smart player I’ll give him that.

I bloody love Alcaraz. I’d love to see Draper move up a notch and start challenging him, but based on that match, actually based on just that tie break, everyone else is still a long way off. He looked inhuman when he smelt blood at the tie break and absolutely bodied him. Those last few points, sweet Lord …
 
Amazing sportsmanship from both players in this match too. Doping allegations aside, these two were absolute gentlemen . I DO feel for Sinner but I'm a Carlos STAN now through and through.

Me too :o The first tournament that I'm attending in person.

Sad that I missed both finals this weekend due to family plans, with them both being comeback wins :( Not going to feel sorry for Sinner, I don't really care for him and it's a taste of his own medicine after he beat Medvedev (who I DO care for) from two sets down in Aus last year.

so happy he beat Sinner - the winners he was hitting apparently effortlessly toward the end of the final set in particular were insane!

I really do hate when we dumb down people's PROVEN doping records because they're NICE.

obviously an expected result but to lose the set 4-6 from 3-0 up...

Zheng corrected her errors, but Emma just... doesn't have that extra gear. she plays rallies in a very safe fashion, almost never redirecting the ball or making her opponent run. other than the odd drop shot she doesn't seem to have any strategy to call on. it makes her look not hungry for it. it's frustrating.

Zheng on grass wasn't a terrible draw either. I really hope Emma can snag another title or 2, but I suspect she'll need to do it at 250 level.
 
women's final day at Queen's :disco:

Maria took the first set v Anisimova 6-3. entertaining first set. she's a demon with the slices. would love to see her win this title at the age of 37!

So the new US Open mixed doubles scheduling (and money) has provisionally racked up a far more interesting and attractive line up. It’s really been dying a death at slams so let’s hope all these turn up.

Marketa Vondrousova wins her first title since Wimbledon 2023 at Berlin. Now please stay injury free & head to the top 10. I'd put her as an outside threat for Wimbledon in a few weeks. You can't count a former champion out.
 
I've not heard of Lehecka before but wow he is playing fucking great tennis against Carlos here. very aggressive. high quality final!
 
Lehecka is a good, good player on his day but struggles with consistency with two losses to Cam Norrie in the opening rounds of Masters tournaments this year as an example. If he can sort that out, he could establish himself in the Top 10 very easily.

He was quite hotly tipped and rising up the rankings a few years back, but I think injuries have held him back. Could be a big threat at Wimbledon, as could Bublik who won Halle today after taking out Sinner in the quarters.
 
No idea what she’s like away from the tennis scene but the only ruder person towards tournament staff and help that I’ve ever seen than Putintseva was Anastasia Rodionova.

God Rodionova was absolutely the most sour faced & miserable cow ever. I swear Serena double bagelled her once just because she couldn't stand her. I think Graf did the same with Helen Kelesi at Wimbledon 1993.
 
I saw Rodionova being a complete nightmare to canteen staff in the players area too so it wasn’t just confined to on court activities!

Haven’t thought about Hurricane Helen in years, she was a really feisty battler though. She also managed to fall out with a 16 year old Monica Seles.

Kelesi has had a very tough time of it though. She’s had multiple brain tumours resulting in having to have her forehead removed and has terrible vision problems now and no sense of smell, poor woman.
 
Yeah, I read about her brain tumour issues years later. I genuinely did wonder if it might have explained some of her inexplicable rages on court with hindsight.
 
^ I’m not a medical expert but believe from what I remember reading about Kelesi that it’s removed or a significant section was and then reconstructed with synthetic materials.
 
unfortunately I didn't see it but wow at Swiatek slapping Paolini down 6-1 6-3 :o Bad Homburg becomes her first ever final on grass.
 
I see Carson Branstine came through a pretty brutal qualifying draw (3 sets with all of top seed Boisson, Andreescu and Serban) to be rewarded with a first round match with Sabalenka.

She defines herself as a tennis player, model (she does have a few good contracts), influencer and Christ follower. She’s know as a bit of a Danielle Rose Collins personality on the ITF tour, I wonder if she’ll reign it in a bit on the bigger stage.

Is she one of those Gen Z people who have “preventative fillers” when they’re 20, which only makes them prematurely look 45?
