Alcaraz showing signs of a mini-slump, losing to David Goffin in 3 sets.

And sadly the decline of Daniil Medvedev continues to gather speed. Winning just 5 games against Jaume Munar is very worrying indeed.

A positive sign for Raducanu though, with a tough 3 set win over in-form top tenner Emma Navarro.
 
Navarro, other than vulturing an event she was way overranked for, has not been in great form this season in my opinion but I’ll not try and take the win away from Emma R, she stuck that one out.

I’m never sad to see Medvedev lose, just not a fan of how he speaks/has spoken to officials repeatedly in the past.

When Medvedev struggled against Samrej and lost in the round to Tien in Australia I knew he'd be in for a tough season, he made the semis in Indian Wells so it's not a disastrous season though.
 
Shame to see Draper out at the first opportunity in Miami, but that's the case for all of the men's semi-finalists from Indian Wells, so at least it's not isolated to just Jack.

Not Radacanu through to the quarter finals of a WTA1000 event. A not unimpressive scoreline over Anisimova who's had some great results this year (not least knocking Andreeva out in the last round). I want to back Emma so badly, but she does make it hard most the time.

Pegula likely awaits next, and out of all the top seeds left, probably the most beatable, but we shall see....
 
She saw Sonay coming for the British no.2 spot and now she's a win away from overtaking Boulter to be no.1 again.

You do wonder if her childhood rival coming for her ranking has reignited a fire inside.... or could just be a good run... time will tell.
 
Pegula might have the crowd behind her, but she doesn't have stans like Raducanu does, so she could easily win this. I don't think Pegula is the force she once was either.

Alex Eala got a walkover after Badosa injured herself, she has Iga next. :shock:

He did indeed do it, in two tough tiebreak sets. I do think Djokovic has one final slam in him, but I think that's all he's got left in him at the top level. Of course he'd be capable of sticking around as a solid player for a few more years yet if that's what he wanted to do.

Sabs won to stretch her lead at the top further yet as Iga continues to flounder, losing to teenager Alexandra Eala.

Now it's on to the clay...

I got the sense that maybe his window had closed with all his horrid form after losing in Oz but I don't think we're quite OUT OF THE WOODS with him as a slam threat yet, especially with Alcaraz also out of form, but hopefully that's his number 1 opportunities gone. Fall from top 5 next please :disco:

Jack really is very good looking. I don't really understand why with the results he's got and his ranking and his looks (and dare I say his gender too!), he doesn't seem to be more saleable than Raducanu as a British player. The press still seem to bang on about her more.
 
Short haired Musetti might be the prettiest guy on the tour right now.

Shame he ran out of steam after the first set of the Monte Carlo final, but the positive is that Alcaraz is back ahead of Zverev in the rankings so I'll take that.

Well yes he definitely suits the haircut but the outfit reminds me of a variation of one of Venus’ classic Wimbledon ensembles.
 
Draper through to semi finals in Madrid, and up to 5 in the world. If he goes much further and has a good run at the French Open, number 4 is within reach. Who knew he would be the man to benefit most in the rankings with Sinner being out?!!

Also pretty wild seeing Coco dish out 2 breadsticks to Iga in her first win over her on clay.
 
Agree it's sooner than expected on the clay for Jack, but he is clearly growing in confidence particularly after Indian Wells. With Sinner out and Carlos somewhat inconsistent, he must believe he can beat anyone on the tour right now.
 
Should be an interesting final - Ruud certainly has the experience on clay, but he's yet to win a title of this level and he really had to fight against Cerúndolo, so my hopes are quite high for Sunday.

First Masters title for sexy Casper - he deserved one on this surface considering how consistently well he's done on the surface the past few years. Jack gave a tough fight, & since Oz he's gone up another gear to solidify his place amongst the top. If he can keep it up for a good RG this bodes very well for the grass season.
 
I agree re: Musetti - so hot and I never thought it at all when he had long hair.
 
Speaking of hot Italians, Fabio Fognini played his last Rome masters before he retires, and went out with a half arsed performance against Jacob Fearnley.

I'd agree with most of this but has Anisimova had any success on the clay this season? I feel like she went out first round in Strasbourg and didn't Radacanu beat her at one of the masters? I'd be surprised to see her get to the semis, and wouldn't that also involve her beating Sabalenka, which seems unlikely.

Ok checked stats and she has a run to semi finals on clay this season, and Radacanu beat her on the hard courts not clay, but she also lost early in Paris where definitely not clay court specialist Katie Boulter took the title. Also forgot her run to the French semi finals in 2019, so not a reach, but I'd still back Sabs in that section of the draw. As always, it could be anyone on the women's draw getting to the Quarters at least.
 
There's been so many instances of random slam semifinalists in the women's game over the years, & Anisimova has the 2019 semifinal here plus a 5-2 lead over Sabs in the head to head, with Sabs not in the greatest of form right now. It'd be an upset for sure, but nowhere near as out there as, for instance, Nadia Podoroska doing it a few years back.

In this scenario, three-time defending champion Swiatek crashed out in R2 to Raducanu, I assume?

I was thrilled that Paolini managed to get a second Masters and continue her success beyond 2024, after some early round exits at the start of the season. Would love her to manage a Slam.

I'm predicting Iga is upset in 3 sets by Andreeva in the quarters.

If Paolini is ever going to win a slam, this is her greatest chance.
 
It defo feels like Paolini's best chance for a slam win.

Very curious to see how Iga gets on after a messy 12 months. She was lucky to get past Osaka in the early round last year at the French, and I could definitely see a scenario where she doesn't get to the quarters. Her nemesis Penko could be there again in the 4th round 😂

Wouldn't be completely surprised with Andreeva coming through to get her first slam either. Should be an interesting tournament.
 
Nobody has won 4 titles in a row since Suzanne Lenglen. I don't think Iga can do it. I can totally see Jelena upsetting her, the issue is does she get through rounds 1 to 3 though.
