Tennis 2025

Bublik reaching a Grand Slam QF, then beating the world number 1 & winning a grass warm-up before losing in Wimbledon round 1 is the most Bublik thing ever.

Zverev going out ( :disco: ) along with Medvedev & Tits in the 1st round seems to spell the end for the main contenders of that generation.

Bit of a poor day for the Brits, Dan Evans won against Jay Clarke but that was a given, Jack Draper is 2 sets up, also a given. Jack Pinnington Jones just won the first set against Etcheverry but I suspect he'll go the way of George Loffhagen.

:wow:

Zverev not managing to break serve once during a five set match - I thought you were meant to be the world #3, hun? :basil:

I'm torn on whether I want to root for Emma tomorrow. The sound of a third round match up between Sabalenka and Vondrousova is too much to resist.

I'll always route for Emma but think Marketa will win today.

Sad that Coco is out but Yastremka was always gonna be a tough opponent for round one.

Starting to now think Swiatek could quietly come through the draw without the pressure or expectation of a top seeding. Although she'd have to beat Rybakina in R4 I think which is probably unlikely.

Norrie v Tiafoe is a cracker. Norrie needs to tie this up in the fourth. he's such an entertaining player to watch, he really goes for it

It's an absolute treat to watch Norrie play some of his best tennis. Some of the rallies are exceptional! But much easier to watch than if you're a fan of both. The constant breaks of serve and then losing the breaks back must be really stressful to watch for fans rooting for one or the other...

Katie Boulter randomly plays like a top 10 player sometimes - moreso than Emma. she just put in a great performance to take down Badosa :disco: just her fourth win against a top 10 player
Typical Katie. Does the hard work taking down Badosa, then out the next round to lucky loser Solana Sierra with a clear path to at least the 4th round RIGHT THERE.

I was impressed with Sonay Kartal though. Easy win today with qualifier Diane Parry the likely next opponent (who I do rate, but is more of a clay player). A quarter final wouldn't surprise me, she's playing well & her calm temperament is a help too amid the media pressure at Wimbledon.

I mean, her body - her choice….. but Vondrousova’s tattoos always make me think that a drunken child has gone mad with a biro

Omg yes Emma! If she can take that game to Sabalenka in the next round, it could rattle Sabs enough to make a challenge.
Brilliant match from Emma, amongst the best she's played in recent times. Sabs is a real tough ask, but it's not impossible if she keeps this level.

Hopefully this is also the start of Marketa getting back to seeding level. There's some weaker sections of the draw that she could have gone far in.

Yes Sabs is a tough ask but it's not impossible.

Paolini and Schnaider also knocked out. Apparently this Wimbledon had set a record for most seeds exiting a slam in the first round... and it continues...

just one of the top 5 women's seeds still in is hilarious/tragic. Paolini hasn't been on it this summer but that's a real disappointment from her.

Am I just turning into my Dad or is the BBC coverage awful? Why is every moment now a social commentary? Andrew Castle is the worst for it talking about how the players will be feeling, how they felt and how they’ll feel after 🙄

Why was Radacanu asked if she was fangirling over who was in the royal box? She’s a sporting professional.

Ok BOOMER

They don’t need to do it for EVERY MATCH. Give us more roundups!

And there’s complaints on YouTube because they don’t release highlights of most matches, just the “main ones” (ie editorial choices)

I get the impression the other slams provide much more footage than Wimbledon is currently doing. Might be a BBC restriction but if so why doesn’t the BBC do it? I don’t think you can access every match on iPlayer anyway.

I'm pretty sure all courts are accessible on iPlayer.

I think the loss to Wang in Berlin and the cringe damage control she did with Sabalenka and the negative feedback from that has really affected her.

Let’s ignore the bells and whistles. She’s simply not a Top 20(?) player on grass - that’s the bottom line.

That forehand is begging to get peppered by someone like Yas who held it together.

Yeah they are but iplayer isn't accessible outside UK without a VPN which is probably where a lot of the people complaining online are
they should find a reliable STREAMING SITE like I do and shut up complaining!

I highly doubt every court at the US Open is shown on ESPN or whatever, or every game at the French is on French TV. Wimbledon coverage is so brilliant and comprehensive. if it's less so internationally that is clearly the fault of whoever buys the rights and not the BBC.

Yes, I like Tracy too and after Seles she’s probably the next biggest what might’ve been in tennis. Derailed by chronic injuries so young her results and stats show she really was giving Navratilova and Evert all they could handle when she was 16-18, great career nonetheless. Her playing days were before my time may I add.

Well I was trying to find all the British matches from round one on iPlayer and it seemed to be missing some, unless it just didn’t like me using LOFFHAGEN in the search bar :(

I’m quite enjoying this Cobolli / Pinnington-Jones match in more ways than one :eyes:
