Tennis 2025

Does EVERYONE in tennis speak English?

That's one thing international football has right- most player interviews are in their own language.

sidebar - I don't think either Sinner or Swiatek is guilty of doping. the banned substances list and risk of exposure to them when athletes have so many routes to (legal) performance enhancement/body strength conditioning, plus random and infrequent testing, mean that many athletes could be doping and never caught, while others might test positive for a banned substance taken or exposed to innocently. and not only in tennis. there doesn't seem to be evidence of intentional doping in either case so why are we assuming they're guilty of that?

previous penalties for doping have been more severe, but every case is different and it's not the fault of either player if the governing body of tennis is more lenient now. let them move on with their careers.

Swiatek tests positive for the same stuff loads of other athletes have suddenly been jumping on (including the 20-odd Chinese swimmers) and Sinner’s was even more bollocks- clostebol is riddled through Italian sport right now. His very expensive and top end physio supposedly didn’t notice it in a product he used which had “DOPING PRODUCT” or words to that effect on it.

Trust me, I know about this shit…!

And it’s also not the tennis authorities being lenient. Both were handled by independent tribunals. The federation went after both of them.

Sweatie it's all out there though?

Oh sweaties
This is bad
I'm over it
How could he do this on the same week GGG was released? She could have had a few more hours at iTunes number 1 if attention hadn't been diverted to bloody tennis

Sinner completely demolished Alcaraz on serve today, barely gave him a look in in the last two.

Tennis has a substance abuse issue, has had it for a LONG time but the last thing anyone needs is the very qualified input from Nick Kyrgios. :eyes:

Random tennis news from last week:

Eugenie Bouchard came out of her tennis retirement after a year to play a random event, she lost in the first round of singles and made the second round of doubles.

Jack Sock also came out of retirement to play doubles with 59 year old billionaire Bill Ackman, suffice to say they lost in the first round and there's hilarious footage on social media of their performance.

Didn't they both defect to pickleball anyway?

Why is Courteney Cox in Iga’s team?
Was this ever answered anywhere? I did read that they hit together a few months ago but clearly they've fastracked a friendship. I guess she's a big Friends fan.

And now Tara Moore is back to a now 4 year ban for her case… as a lowly ranked doubles player just inside the top 200 the investigations are more than happy to make an example of her - and it just goes to show even more the way Swiatek and Sinner have been given preferential treatment.

The naivety of some people thinking they did it ‘by accident’ and aren’t guilty of doping. For some reason the media are desperate for us to think they’re innocent - I just don’t get why some people are given this special treatment (well I do - it’s because they love to pretend that they’re a drug free sport even when high profile name after high profile name gets caught… those two, Sharapova, Halep, more I can’t think of right now)…

It has made me really angry about the Sinner case - he has literally said ‘I didn’t have preferential treatment, I just could afford a better lawyer so I got one…’ That literally IS preferential treatment. Everyone should be entitled to the same level of defence or it’s a two-tier system.

Whilst I agree with this, there is a naivety in asking why "for some reason" the media are desperate to think they're innocent. Cycling and Athletics are both known as being the sports that have huge problems with doping. Mainly because they're both among the sports that actually wants to tackle the problem. Athletics has more doping tests than any sport so is always going to have more positives. I don't believe for a second that football doesn't have a doping problem- difference is that no one wants to spoil the illusion. Tennis, I feel, is rather the same.

Chinny has announced Montreal will be her final tournament. Don't think there's ever been a bigger one season wonder in tennis.

All the aforementioned doping cases are very different and while I have no doubt there could be a lot of (covered) drug use in tennis, I could give some of the big names a pass.

Sharapova — said substance Meldonium became illegal only a few months before she was caught. I think this case was negligence more than attempting to cheat. Of course, a punishment was in order.

Swiatek — contaminated Melatonin. If this was a cover-up, they did a great job in getting a drug company to play a long and prepare a contaminated batch in a very short time. I would almost want to believe them.

Halep — similar to Swiatek.

Sinner — the story of a masseuse using the substance with a doping label on a wound on his hand and then massaging Sinner sounds absolute garbage. Shame because his tennis is beautiful.

Then there’s e.g. Yastremska getting it through sex and Errani eating her grand mother’s tortellini where she had accidentally dropped her cancer medicine. :bad:
