I'm really enjoying the rivalry but yes, it would make things a tad more exciting.

I know Sinner has his detractors but I like him.
 
I'd like to think Jack Draper could pose some sort of challenge in the next year or so, depending on how his body copes.

Lorenzo Mussetti seems like he could potentially win a slam or two at some point.

Lower down, perhaps Gabriel Diallo.
 
the scary thing is that Sinner playing under his best level destroyed the rest of the field. nobody else is going to win a slam in the next year or two barring some injuries to he and Carlos, the rest are so far behind.

I'd say the next to do it could be Ben Shelton but he's not close yet, or maybe Jiri Lehecka.

love the rivalry etc etc but women's tennis is just so much more exciting for its unpredictability - both Sabalenka and Swiatek are more than capable of having an off day/tournament and several others are ready to pounce when they do. but the next-best men aren't bringing it.

the final kinda stank! all the great matches on both sides happened before the semis came around.
 
Alexandrova - Swiatek final happening right now at the Korea Open is pretty insane. Alexandrova tore the first set 6-1, Swiatek edged the second 7-6, and the third is a rollercoaster - Alexandrova looks emotionally SPENT but serving at 5-6 to take it to a tiebreak. she's played fantastic tennis today.
 
Emma loses another match after having multiple match points in a second set tie-break :eyes: Think this one is worse as there was a MP on her own serve, and with Krejcikova we knew she was good at being houdini.
 
I watched that second set and thought Emma was playing some great tennis. shame she couldn't close it out... and collapsed thereafter

She retired from her opening round match in Wuhan today, possibly due to the near 40 degree heat but she was 6-1 4-1 down at the time. :eyes:

Jess just beat Aryna in a cracker of a three set semi. she was 2-5 down in the final set and won it 7-6. happy for her! she must be the best player on the women's tour not to win a slam yet.
 
Although I've never been a Rune fan, what a horror of an injury. It seems likely he'll miss the whole of the next season & you have to wonder if he'll ever be the same player again.

 
the first set of Gauff v Sabalenka was unreal with Gauff well on top for most of it, but Sabalenka clawed back to tiebreak and won 7-6 6-2.

Pegula v Rybakina
Anisimova v Sabalenka

Just caught up with this news. Honestly, I'm shocked. Ferrero was more than just a coach - he was a mentor.

I wonder if this ends up backfiring for Carlos?
 
why? he clearly has room to improve in terms of his in game concentration so maybe it's a good move to keep things fresh.

They’re both with the same management company Evolve who are looking to boost both their profiles and apparently “bring tennis to a new audience”.

Aryna single handedly helping out the the equal pay naysayers, I think she has damaged the women’s game doing this or at the least did it no favours.

Also the court was only built today so Kyrgios wasn’t even able to practice on the smaller court he had to use, I can tell you that alone is a difficult task to adjust to when you’ve had a lifetime of using the standard dimensions Aryna was using.

Also, as per most events I’ve seen hosted in Dubai, it was entirely devoid of atmosphere. The most notable thing was Sabalenka’s timeout to dance to the Macarena on camera due to it being highly cringe.
 
Nick taking time out at the first match point was very Nick.

I am still intrigued how much he has left in the game, really. Next week he's playing both singles and doubles in Brisbane. I suspect a wildcard for the Australian Open is likely too, at least on doubles.
 
I actually enjoyed it. I also do think he was trying - he looked like he was hitting it less hard than her because I think he was being more careful because of the dimensions of his court.

I don’t really see what the naysayers are taking from this - I took that women CAN win points against men and that whilst men are naturally faster and stronger there’s not the gulf that some people want to pretend there is. Somehow some people took the opposite! But whatever.
