A good week for British women on the WTA tour. Katie Boulter winning a tournament and putting her well back within the top 100 where she belongs. And Raducanu finally reaching her first final since the US Open. Seemingly a 5th consecutive win was too much for Emma as she was comprehensively beaten in the title match.
 
Emma has travelled to compete in Doha and has her first round match tomorrow! Probably a mistake unless she really wants the ranking points. She was exhausted after the final on Saturday.
 
Muchova was rock solid to beat Mboko 6-4 7-5 in Doha. her first WTA 1000 title and only her second title ever :o

Mboko into the top 10 regardless
 
So happy for Karolina! She'd have more titles if she wasn't made of glass. If she could win just one slam I'd be so happy. Such a talented player.
 
@BoysForSeles have you read this? Properly insightful look at life on the Challenger circuit from Irish player Conor Niland. I remember how close he was to beating Mannarino at Wimbledon. Least surprising revelation is Jerzy Janowicz being a prick.

Yes, it was my airport read last summer. It’s a good read, Dimitrov didnt come out too well either but we’ll excuse him for being very young at the time.

It’s a shame Conor didn’t quite get the breakthrough he was on the cusp of but he made the most of what he had.

I played him once in an Irish tournament, this was before he was only playing ITF/ATP events.

I wondered if you'd ever played him. I liked how it shone a light on the lesser circuits (I've always thought this would make a fascinating documentary - how do some of these players survive? What's in the minds of the types who show up everywhere to lose 6-0 6-0 in the first rounds of qualifying?) There's a lot more Nilands out there than there are Federers.

It was just the once, I came through qualifying and my reward was to draw him in the first round of that one. He was the top seed. Although I’m glad to say there were no breadsticks or bagels served he handled me comfortably enough.
 
my queen Jess Pegula easing through to the QFs at the Dubai Open where she'll play Taucson tomorrow. her form from China at the end of last season has continued. I really want her to win a title to get the season off to a promising start.

Svitolina playing Bencic this afternoon for a QF spot.
 
Pegula beat Svitolina 6-2 6-4 to take her first title since last June. it wasn't Elina's day today. probably tired after that epic with Gauff in the semi.

Congrats. I predict your first match will be Anne Keothavong and Shirli-Ann Siddall losing 6-2 6-1 to Tracy Austin and Kathy Rinaldi-Stunkel.
 
I didn't see the match but that final set tiebreak was insane. Fils is such a SEXY KING.
 
Yes, very happy he's back! He has defended his QF points in Indian Wells and bettered his performance in Miami with a SF at least.
He still has QF points to defend in Monte-Carlo but from there on has tons of points to gain considering he didn't play Wimbledon and the US Open last year and the Australian Open this year!
 
I was so so happy for my queen Pegula repeating the title in Charleston after a week of grinding out three-setters and not playing her best. I maintain she will win a slam this year.
 
Jannik beats Carlos quite handily 7-5 6-3 for his first Monte Carlo title today. he now has 27 titles vs 26 for Carlito.
 
Fun part: Jannik and Carlos were at the exakt same amount of points vs each other before this meeting.

Jannik looked dialled in all week though (thanks for drubbing Zverev with a baguette ❤️), result makes sense.
 
^ i like that Zverev keeps running into Sinner this year and keeps losing relatively comfortably.

The title difference is more due to the 2 year age gap but it’s good that Sinner and Alcaraz are splitting wins. Carlos just has that personality that gets a bit more inspired at the slams than the tour so the French should be interesting.
 
Alcaraz will not defend his French Open title due to his wrist injury. Such a shame for him but good that he’s prioritising it. Big opportunity for someone to make the final. Hopefully not Zverev. It might give Djokovic a little boost if he can get himself fit.
 
Sad news. Probably Sinner. Just not Zverev, please - however I've a feeling Sinner gets upset early & Z gets his slam over some Martin Verkerk finalist type :(
 
If Sinner loses more than 2 sets in Paris in total that'll be a shock.

all before the QFs. leaving Sabalenka, Andreeva and... some others.
 
There’s a viral illness/food poisoning spate doing the rounds in Madrid.

Kostyuk is playing well so far and is always a good bet to have a feisty, spicy encounter with Sabalenka on clay but ultimately lose so I’m hoping she can navigate her way to the final. There’d be some needle in the air at least.

Andreeva can make Sabalenka fray around the edges too although her form has been very iffy in this event so far.
