Francis Cerundolo is very sexy. he was a hot mess in that first set but glad he could turn it around.

missed the last set because I was watching Pegula BEAT Sabalenka in 3, including a third set BAGEL! the bakery is open girls! :disco:

Jess really turned up today. she was actually up 3-1 in the second set tie before rain paused play for 90 mins. Sabalenka then muscled through the tie but completely collapsed in the third. her mentality is all over the shop since she did the sunshine double.
 
Jess to win Wimbledon please. with Rybakina and Sabalenka shaky and Swiatek in terrible form, this has to be the time.
 
Rybakina has hsd a dreadful grass court season so far which can only mean one thing - a big Wimbledon run.
 
Rybakina has pulled out of Bad Homborg next week with an injury so her appearance at Wimbledon could be in doubt.

Yeh maybe... 3 tournaments would have been ambitious if she had gone far. I think she got 3 matches at best, I reckon she'd have been looking for more than that as a Wimbledon warm up. A hip injury apparently... Let's see how it pans out.
 
she's an absolute darling, quite funny and she plays great tennis. excellent return game. love her calm on court. and I will always root for a player who at 30+ is still pushing their game to a higher level - it's why my other queen is Svitolina. Jpeg is 32 and every year could be her last chance (though I'd say she is very fit and has a while to go yet).

Yeah that's fair enough. I just find her game basic if effective & while I've nothing against her personally, her billionaire background means there's no underdog level story for me to root for either.

What I'm saying is you should join me on TEAM MUCHOVA really :D

tennis will become more and more vulnerable to extreme weather in the summer months - I wonder how they're gonna navigate this?

Marketa Vondrousova has been handed a four year (!) ban for refusing a drugs test. I'd guess on appeal it'll be reduced to two? she's about to turn 27 so with no appeals reduction it could be a career ender.

“I have never failed a test” is such a ridiculous defence nowadays when so many anti-doping violations are nothing to do with a positive test and don’t get me started on the old “mental health” defence. Her legal team clearly had fuck all else to go on and by the sound of it, she’s guilty as fuck- “I was too scared to let her in at night”, then goes walking her dog 5 minutes later :D

The four years will probably stand, there’s previous bans of that length, and so it should be. A refusal is as strong as a positive test. Very different to whereabouts. I do think there’s issues with the consistency, though, when you think of what Sinner got away with.

The ITIA are really trying to clean things up, which is good to see.

Not sure how to take that…but it’s something just about every doping violation case I’ve seen mentions at some point and is thrown in by the lawyers. So no, it’s not “her” defence, it’s one cooked up by her team. But it’s there in the arguments that she counted on it.
 
Osaka just beat Alexandrova 6-2 6-2 in one hour at Bad Homburg to make the semi final. I've not seen her looking this sharp since the comeback. dark horse for Wimbledon?
 
I saw 30 minutes of her (resumption of the French match on Monday) in beautiful Bad Homburg (such a good event!) and just beautifully crisp ball-striking.

These hot/warm conditions help her, too. Speeds up the courts and gives the ball more bounce.
 
What is Osaka's best result at Wimbledon? I know she's won the Australian Open and the US Open.

Not really surprising. She’s essentially a hard court player who likes a nice, consistent height on the bounce which hard gives you. The bounce on grass is lower which takes the ball out of her natural hitting zone. However, the hot temperatures this week have really firmed the courts and are providing a higher bounce so she’s closer to her comfort zone. She’ll be hoping for a hot Wimbledon. A few minor adjustments and she should be fine on traditional grass but with her it’s more in her head when things don’t run smoothly.
