OMG how has this not got a thread yet? :o

I'm just reading some reviews of it from when it came out, one referred to as 'The best album Sheryl Crow never made'. For me it's better than anything that old bitch ever put out.

It's so brittle and sad and beautiful from start to finish. Nina's voice is just perfection.

I love it all from start to finish but I'm going to big up "You're The Storm" in view of your measly 8 VoR.

Such a brilliant song. I love the idea that you're so in love/lust with someone that you give up all pretence of control, inhibition and reserve and just let them completely overtake you.

I can hear your cannons call
You've been aiming at my land
Your hungry hammer is falling

And if you want me I'm your country...

The imagery is violent and aggressive which nicely goes against the conventional cutesy notion of love - amazing stuff.

Cause you're the storm that I've been needing
And all this peace has been deceiving
I like the sweet life and the silence
But it's the storm that I believe in

I do love it, but that and A Good Horse threaten to interrupt the UNADULTERATED MISERY of the rest of the album. Although you're right, the former definitely has a razor edge.

There are so many incredible lyrical passages on the album I barely know where to begin. However there's a verse in Communication which is just so tender it HURTS.

Well this is an invitation
It's not a threat
If you want communication
That's what you get
I'm talking and talking
But I don't know how to connect...

I have to admit though, Super Extra Gravity was a let down for me.

Don't Blame Your Daughter is up there with the best of this album, and Losing A Friend and I Need Some Fine Wine are solid Cardigans, but too much of the rest just makes no impression on me whatsoever. :(

let's not start dissing Sherly Crow or I might have to start making threads suddenly disappear

Have you heard this album Funky? I'll be honest, I was deliberately baiting you with that line.

I do think you'd like it. It's nothing like the stuff they had hits with previously. (Although Gran Turismo is also a great album).

Not as good as Gran Turismo, but still pretty good.

I love love love this album. It's between this one and Super Extra Gravity for my favourite of theirs. This one is just so lovely though, soundwise. "Feathers & Down" makes me want to be all snuggled up in bed surrounded by candles. Pretty much be in the album cover.

"Couldn't Care Less" is just too much

Your face don't look like before
It's really not like yours anymore
Your eyes don't like me no more
They quiver and they shift to the floor...

... And you couldn't care less, could you?

:(

New fan alert, I first listened to it a couple months ago and am liking it lots, it's gorgeous

One of the best albums I've EVER heard. Beautiful from start to finish. And "For What It's Worth" remains my favourite song of theirs ever.

I LOVE "Super Extra Gravity" too, though, so ignore VoR's NONSENSE and get that too

For what it's worth, I love you
And what is worse, I really do

Y'know, I love my friends as much as I do my family, but in seven years I still haven't managed to hook even one of them in to this album. Tomorrow I vow to slip an unidentifiable CDR into several unmarked jiffy bags and hope to achieve at least ONE convert (or get locked up).

Quite ridiculously overlooked. DOES ANYONE LIKE IT who isn't a gay born before 1987?

I don't think I can fairly rate it without giving it a fresh full listen but my 11 definitely goes to '3:45 No Sleep'.

Then my theory is proven and your 05 rating is therefore INVALID, young man.

A Good Horse really is SUCH a weak link. I wish it wasn't so early in the tracklisting.

Things have been worse
And we had fun fun fun
'Till I said I loved you
And what is worse
I really do

Oh NINA :(

God I love it. I played both albums in the car earlier today and the one thing I will agree with VoR on is that "Don't Blame Your Daughter" would actually fit on this far better than on "Super Extra Gravity" if you ask me. It's such a shame the band don't like the album- and how ODD that they don't either. They didn't play anything from it when I last saw them live...

This may have been the sole reason I turned up to my boyfriend's in an absolutely MISERABLE mood today as well... :D

Just asked Alexa to play this album and she said it was the "Remastered version". I have since found out ALL their albums were remastered in 2018. Has anyone listened and does the remaster make any difference?

So far Communication sounds a bit more bassy and the strings sound a bit more prominent.

What IS Nina up to these days? I miss her voice.

The first A-Camp album is notably absent from Spotify too, which is a shame.

I worked that song title into a pub quiz question recently and people got really mad at me :D

I need some fine wine and you you need to quiz nicer?

EDIT: Oh, I thought you said into a pub quiz name. I'm using it next time anyway

It was a wine round and I asked which Swedish band had a hit with the song 'I need some find wine and you, you need to be nicer'

My classification of it as a 'hit' was widely disputed. :(

They probably had a valid point but I applaud the concept!

That’s a damn good question - and whether it was a hit or not was irrelevant to getting the correct answer

I just put this on for the first time in years and it’s still MAGNIFICENT. Really perfect for the utter MISERY of the post Christmas months :disco:

I’m half tempted to stay in New Years drinking FINE WINE, chain-smoking cigarettes and SOBBING to this.

Then get out the GAK and put on Gran Turismo.

I am once again depressed and listening to his alone at home with a bottle of wine! Really NOTHING QUITE LIKE IT :disco:

We just don't care anymore
We're crooked and we're cut to the core
We're just not there anymore
But we really don't care, do we?

:disco:

Misery never felt so DIVINE!
