A strong set-up but I don't think this capitalised on it fully. Another polish of the script - and a director who turned up - would have worked wonders.
McKellen was having fun as Lucien Freud meets Miriam Margolyes, but the character should have been sharper and funnier.
I was OBSESSED with Michaela Coel's blank has-she-actually-been sedated performance. Like a very pretty, mesmerising robot. Not bad but not good either - and I felt the same about the film.
And there was something mildly offensive and pantomime about the "look at these two GREEDY FATTIES" approach taken with the children. Jessica Gunning deserves better.
