The Comeback

As a new Comeback fan, to have a new series as soon as March - what a treat. And Andrew Scott to boot!

What. A. Show.

I re-watched it earlier this year. I'll just have to do it again now. March isn't far off at all!

Could this finally be Kudrow's time to sweep the awards season with this show? It feels criminally ignored. I almost like it that way given the point of view it has, but still.

It really is one of the greatest shows ever made. And now they just added the sexy priest. I'm not sure I can cope.

Just under a month!

I'm going in avoiding any clips though (let's see how long that lasts).

Gosh, and only 8 episodes.

So I found the episode above okay. It's a wider series looking at the show, so when it just jumped right in to the cupcake scene from season 1 I found it a little jarring as if the hosts were nervous and inexperienced. One of the hosts being Dan Butakinsky (who plays Val's agent). I feel they could have asked Lisa much better questions rather than the sense of a fan squeezing in all their favourite observations at a meet and greet.

Other episodes of this podcast include Laura Silverman (Jane), Damian Young (husband Mark) and Kellan Lutz (blond himbo Chris). For me, so much of the re-watch-ability of the show is naturally looking at what's around Val and considering the different POVs of Val herself, so I'll definitely watch the episodes with other cast members to hear their thoughts or recollections of the direction they were given.

Yes I kept feeling like Lisa Kudrow wasn’t giving any real insight, just sort of retelling various scenes from the show, but that’s probably more because the hosts weren’t giving her the opportunity to offer much more.

There’s going to be an official companion podcast for each episode in the new season so I’ll certainly give that a go too.

I like Jimmy Kimmel but is there really any value in still subjecting Lisa to those tired old Friends questions?

Yeah he gave her nothing to work with there. And for new people there was really no incentive to make The Comeback must watch TV. In fact I felt like I was watching an interview that would be in a show like The Comeback

She still comes across as a total sweetheart though.

Jesus. Tomorrow. How did this sneak up so fast?

I hope my entire Instagram feed is flooded with nothing but Val for the next 8 weeks.

I’ve been re-binging seasons one and two in anticipation of this. So many iconic comedic moments, but in terms of Kudrow’s unsung dramatic chops, this scene always gets me.

The way she takes a beat to wordlessly show that Valerie is clearly too hurt to muster a comeback and all she can stammer out is “I’m not no-one… that’s not nice.” - Devastating.

That will send me to tears every single time :( :( :(

It almost feels like what a season 2 may have been like had it came a year or so later.

Great use of the different camera forms and how Val switches her delivery for them.

Love how Patience thinks the footage couldn't possibly be of use, but Val is being recognised and seems to consider it absolutely crucial.

We have an official podcast too (I'm just about to start). I wonder if the opening is a slight nod to Web Therapy (2011-15). Lisa and Michael are guests.

Edit: 14 minutes in they go further ahead than episode 1 so I'm stopping.

I've watched, and you should be OK to keep going. No major spoilers, just a general summary of what the season's about and then it's straight into an in-depth on episode 1.
