Oopsie I missed the parts where Scotland were denied a democratic vote on their own destiny, and when the evil London BOMBED their hospitals into oblivion, and when we blockaded Gretna Green to prevent life-saving supplies of medicines and deep fried Mars bars being delivered.
 
Yes I left because of this thread/the wider discussion of Israel. Its a topic that I have a hard time separating my emotions and my logical beliefs, and it causes me a lot of anxiety. I don't think any regular posters on Moopy are anti-semitic (@funky that 100% includes you), but reading this thread and other stuff still hurts at times.

I am not Israeli, have never been to Israel, and would not go under the current circumstances (not that America isn't complicit). I recognize that there is a genocide happening, and I continue to support Palestinian statehood and dignity, as I always have. I disagree with the idea that Israel is not a legitimate state, but that is obviously a secondary concern to the fate of Palestinians.

I'm lying to myself if I say that I won't read this thread, but I also feel like I am in a much healthier place with my mental health than I was last year.

It's good to see you. I had a break around this too, albeit only for a few weeks. The media and political framing is designed to be divisive and I don't blame you for feeling that the wheels of the bus were riding over you. The whole thing is just awful and the rhetoric from elected leaders continues to make it harder to navigate.

They are after all known for their GOOD JUDGEMENT!

Not to say Netanyahu isn’t a terrible evil person, but are individual evil Muslims responsible for Islamophobia or individual evil black people responsible for racism or individual evil trans people responsible for transphobia?
 
I took my best mate to the Annie Lennox Q&A last week and I realised before we went that I should warn her about Annie’s massive outspoken campaigning against the genocide in Gaza. Not because she’s pro-Netenyahu (she’s not) but because as a Jew I didn’t want her to feel vulnerable in any way. We don’t speak in detail about Israel ever but I know she has American friends in NY who are very pro-Israel, but not enough to know whether they agree with what’s happening or how influenced she might be by them. She’s not very political. I know she was glad I mentioned it in advance. She ended up really enjoying it - even when Annie did go on a brief tirade towards the end about it. I was just very conscious about it. I don’t think any of us can possibly understand what it means to be Jewish at the moment, because there isn’t one single Jewish perspective. All I can relate to is that I love her and I don’t want her to feel attacked or vulnerable because of something that is happening thousands of miles away that she has no control over.

She did say one thing that stuck with me - when I mentioned that I wondered if there would be audience questions and whether anyone would ask Annie to clarify her support of Israel in her criticism of the government (there wasn’t, but I didn’t know Annie’s husband was Israeli!) my friend mentioned how she would never be the one to ask that question because she wouldn’t want to be “the jew” in that environment. That kinda stuck with me. I’ve thought about it a lot since.
 
I relate to what she said there a lot, but I didn’t really for most of my life until the last few years. Part of that is the privilege of looking like the majority (as a white man without much of a sense of style). But also it was just less of a hot topic, especially around the left leaning people I associate with.
 
Also Annie Lennox’s husband being an Israeli peace activist makes me love her more, especially since she also made Beethoven (I Love to Listen)

If this is a response to the South Park clip I posted, I would say that in the context of the full episode it's a bit more nuanced (albiet in a very South Park sort of way), and my reading of that scene isn't that the makers* were saying that Netanyahu was responsible for the wave of antisemitism Jews are currently facing, more that his actions were putting global Jews into an impossible situation of being forced to publicly declare a side for something that they have no influence over and often extremely complex feelings on.

*Matt Stone is himself Jewish, so I assume his perspective played a significant part in the episode.

Maybe I shouldn’t make my opinions based on Reddit and actually watch it, because I 100% agree with that sentiment.

Edit: to expand, I do stand by what I said in general, but maybe I was wrong about it applying to an episode of South Park I haven’t seen

good i would advise most of the girls in this forum to not speak about Israel NO TEA NO SHADE but stick to topics you actually know a lot about like Madge's discography, the rise of Tommy Robinson, whether Scotland should separate, if bringing Max Martin on board is a good move for Tay at this stage in her career, etc.
 
oh shush i've been to Israel and the West Bank at least 10 times the AVA MAX bottoms in this thread wouldn't even be allowed into the holy land
