Now just watch the bimbo ditch him when she realizes he's cancelled.

Just one thing though. Is not posting about BLM racist? Some people just choose not to engage in politics. It's many things, but I don't see it as racist. In his case it seems so though.

It's about having a large platform and choosing not to use it to support the movement. Not overtly racist but considered complicit, or unhelpful at the very least.

We regret to inform you that Dua Lipa, the only good popstar of the quarantine era, may be attempting to instigate war in the Balkans.

Waiting for Rita Ora and Bebe Rexha to have their say before I pass judgement.

And Rita chooses today to post this !

Kosovo is recognised as a nation by the US, so I'm surprised its not on Google maps.

I cancelled Vivienne Westwood last week when I saw someone sharing an interview with her from 96 or 97 saying that the Spice Girls were uneducated and bad role models.

She is of course right, but teenage me would have probably sent her an angry letter.

She was cancelled DECADES ago when she publicly supported the Tories, KEEP UP! :x:

(I actually don't mind Vivienne but it seems she SHOOTS FROM THE HIP but doesn't really look into "issues" TOO DEEP. She's very ANTI-FRACKING so she is ALL OVER THE PLACE).

What a surprise that someone can agree on somethings and not on others.

Still not fully cancelled but here's Lord Sugar with a great Sunday morning self-own

I mean it must be. Or do they hate each other now? He seems to fall out with most of his Apprentices, and this guy in particular was not particularly the nicest of chaps.

God I hate the phrase Cancel Culture now, I feel like every single podcast I listen to has brought it up multiple times, and it’s just a fairly unimaginative interview question now “what do you think of cancel culture!”

It’s even looping back itself now, sometimes it’s just people talking about the fact that people are talking about cancel culture :gross:

It's become a 'thing' but it seems rare for people to actually clarify what they're talking about - is it people being silenced for having certain views, is it celebrities being called out when they've done something shitty, or is it something else? It feels like several distinct things have been lumped together under this umbrella term, and it seems like a pretty difficult foundation to actually have a conversation from.

that’s what makes it an even shittier interview question, just dumps the onus on the guest!

This kind of sums up what cancel culture is to me and why I don’t like it:

That's a brilliant video.

"Punishing people for being insufficiently pure" and "Politics has come to be people's religious identity" is the best way anyone has phrased it.

If we're posting videos, this is from a year ago but contains a lot of stuff I broadly agree with, and says it better than I ever could:

He hits on a particular point I was trying to argue (probably unsuccessfully) somewhere on here a while ago - that pretty much everyone that's been 'cancelled' actually hasn't and still have successful careers (and in fact in the case of comedians and opinion columnists I'd argue it actually opens up an avenue for new material - complaining about getting cancelled :tongueout:), and people getting these big opportunities have to accept that they might get taken away if a company or organisation doesn't want the negative publicity of being associated with them for whatever reason, companies being risk-averse is just how capitalism works.

It also touches on the fact that what's being painted as a new phenomenon has actually been happening for decades, and there wasn't a huge outcry about sensitive young people or social justice warriors back then. How odd! Almost like the whole thing might be yet another hyped up culture war issue designed to distract people from other problems in our society :eyes:

Love Bari Weiss

Moderate voices like hers are basically non-existent in 2020.

Actually, if you read George Washington's farewell speech, it's fascinating how much foresight he had about this kind of thing. His warnings against tribalism and herd mentality in the public sphere were incredibly accurate, albeit basically all ignored. Moderates really do make the best presidents in my opinion.

Bari Weiss is a complete HYPOCRITE who has spent DECADES creating an environment of cancel culture for anyone daring to speak against human rights violations in Israel and the legitimacy of the Palestinian people so she can ROT in the CANCELLING HELL she's created HERSELF!

Also how is she a moderate voice? Most of her positions seem pretty conservative to me (particularly on economics and foreign policy), with one or two mildly socially liberal ones thrown in so she can position herself in the centre for reasons of furthering her career. You're not going to get many hardcore MAGA people invited onto (non-Fox News) current affairs shows in the US, but a self-proclaimed centrist who has 90% of the same views? No problem!

That doesn't make anything that she said in the video incorrect.

Well she’s a centrist in the US and while she’s biased in the Israeli issue I find most of what I’ve seen/read from her as moderate on social issues.

I found myself agreeing with the video up until the point where it changed to talking about creating an environment where people are afraid to voice their opinions or say what they really think.

Well, if you hold gross views then you should feel embarrassed to say them out loud and the fact you question saying them tells me you know they're not socially acceptable.

ALSO, you're entitled to an opinion. Everyone has them. You're not entitled to a platform to spout them and if you elect to do so, then you have to be accepting of those opinions being drawn into question and called out on them.

I have opinions on things all the damn day long, that doesn't give me the innate right to inflict them onto you.

Opinions really are like arseholes. Everybody has them and no one wants to hear them.
