Wtf does "fun mod" entail though :D SPANKINGS for mildly naughty remarks?

Not spending three hours debating a temporary ban for saying fuck you is a GOOD START!

Seriously though it's not anything specific, it's a general feeling that moopy is losing its unpredictability and natural chaos. We can't all be gagged for saying fuck and bugger, literally.

To be clear, I am not running to be a moderator.

I don’t think you’re a cunt @ButterTart but there were some oversights that were pretty howling tbh

He's basically asking to be the DAVID MELLOR of Moopy. So probably spankings, yes
This essentially sounds like me being a mod

about 18 years ago I snuck into Conservative Party conference by saying I was David Mellor’s personal assistant and it worked! I stole some bits, unplugged some technology and spilt some tea before getting chucked out. Happy days.

I've been accused quite openly of bias tonight so the conversation has gone from 'we think the mods are great, but...' to 'ButterTart, you're a bit of a cunt, aren't you'? I'm not really feeling the love or the impetus to carry on with the job tonight, if I'm honest.

I didn’t want to come on here this morning and start this whole thing off again but, having woken at 5 and ruminated for a few hours, I can’t get this off my mind. I think this might (no promises!) be my last post on this as it’s wound me up too much too.

No one has said you or any of the mod team are cunts- in fact, it’s quite the opposite and people have been tripping over themselves to say things like “it’s a thankless task” and how you do an amazing job and to have this kind of response really isn’t constructive at all and feels designed to make people on the other side of the argument feel bad. I refute that (as one of the leaders of the counter argument last night) anyone resorted to personal attacks or did anything to warrant that. It was entirely focused on the actions of the mods and the biases that were shown, nothing at all to do with the posters themselves. And as someone else pointed out, we’re all guilty of biases, it’s kinda human.

Having said that, I genuinely am sorry if you genuinely feel this way, because no one should feel like a “cunt”, but I do think you need to see that people are coming for your actions, not you as a person. There’s a major difference here.

With respect, you said "fuck you" to Kate AND accused Beverley of timing posts deliberately to stoke drama, within the space of one post last night.

Yes, cause that fuck you wasn’t remotely ironic, @COB

And if we’re going to go there, how else do you explain that timing of Bev’s withdrawal?

And also, how is that a personal attack?

I think the point being brushed over in the above two post that Sheena raised is that being critical and reflective of a poster's actions, including a moderator's (and the subsequent 'official' action taken) and noting bias shouldn't be perceived as a personal attack in of itself, and that when it's addressed as such it only serves to deflect from the actual discussion taking place.

Yes, there were a few choice words used in the thread, but the vast bulk of the content was not - from my perspective - an attack on anyone.

Genuinely didn't read it that way but happy to accept that was the case.

Fair enough. It was entirely related back to the earlier reason gggggg got banned, hence the comment at the end about awaiting my warning.

Albeit I accept without that context it could be read otherwise entirely.

I explained my timing in this thread. Insisting that it was for max drama is a bad faith reading.

Babe, I love you, but to remove your application to be a mod exactly at the time something you were heavily involved in is being debated by the mod team and someone who opposes your central view is an absolute statement for effect. Own it.

‘Babe’, I wasn’t involved! I didn’t report him or ban him! I spent most of yesterday telling my partner it wasn’t a good idea for me. I won’t have you impose a narrative on me that you know fuck all about.

Surely you can see how ’we’re coming for your actions, not you as a person’ is pretty cold comfort when you’re accusing us of censorship, swearing at us (sorry to sound pollyannish but it DOES hit differently in a thread like that than it would if I said something you didn’t like in a Kylie conversation) and taking everything we’re doing in the worst possible faith.

It was late at night, it was/is an incredibly delicate matter and a number of you were demanding immediate action when we weren’t even all online to discuss it among ourselves.

I don’t mean to sound defensive, but whatever we may have gotten wrong individually or as a group, we were acting in good faith and I just wish some of you could have given us a wee bit more grace.

You cannot deny your involvement in it.

And ease up having a go at "Babe" when you're referring to us as "girls" and, particularly, not being willing to "school you girls"- what was that about people being intimidated to post in that thread?

I’ve spent most of my time on moopy challenging the dominant political narratives that have existed on here, particularly around race and whiteness. I’ve done it repeatedly, tirelessly, even at personal expense - which you are well aware of. When somebody comes in claiming that our perspective on something is silly or baseless, when it takes about two seconds to google the foundations of it, you might see why I’m impatient or impolite.

Sorry, but that "FUCK YOU" was obviously just based on what gggggg said and a poke at what was going on. I'm not having that that is even REMOTELY comparable.

What I WILL accept is that gggggg's use of it may well have been different to a Kylie thread, but that then brings me to another point- the likes of Ag vs Inner Smile has had absolutely foul language and stuff behind it with ZERO input from the mods and yet one "FUCK YOU" from someone who doesn't agree with the general consensus warrants a "ban"? Again, I repeat my earlier assertion, this was about that poster's beliefs rather than his actions, which is absolutely NOT OK.

And to take your point about censorship, again, how is that a personal attack on anyone? It's calling out the mod team for getting something wrong. Something I stand by this morning. I actually would have zero issue with what happened if you'd just put your hands up to it- we all make mistakes in the heat of the moment, absolutely fine- but to still be here with this going on in the face of almost universal (public at least) disagreement is not where we should be right now.

And that point I'm actually not moaning about- and I haven't anywhere that I recollect, but we should reserve the right for that poster to have an opinion that differs to yours.

This paaji, is exactly why I was pleased when you said you would stand. So you could have a voice, I see you and feel you. But I would never want you to stand if it affects your mental health, because that does come first.

On Ag vs Inner Smile, I’ve called out the double standard on the things Ag gets away with many times, and continue to do so. But there was no racial element there that I’m aware of. The other thing that weighs on the mod team is that this topic is so much bigger than the individual posters involved.

They’re not opinions! Where they’re opinions, I say as much, otherwise they are things that are backed up by evidence.

This is why I wouldn't touch this with a bargepole. I'm getting anxiety just reading what happened last night; the thought of being asked to wade in is genuinely terrifying to me.

The veracity of which is disputed by the "opposing" (I really can't think of a less incendiary word) side, whose own comments and evidence you have disagreed with.

I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying- as I've outlined before I actually agree with you in the whole debate- and I also think we're rabbitholing here into something this wasn't about for me- I'm not (here at least) here to debate who is right or who is wrong, it's about the machinations that went on because of those posts/ beliefs/ opinions/ facts- however you want to frame it.

This has lost me a bit. Surely a racial issue (or the side you, the mods, took on the issue) is the problem, right? As the mods acted differently towards gggggg than Tesco just because of his belief system on this issue.

I don't think anyone was calling gggggg out for racial comments about that "FUCK YOU"- it was framed as a personal attack. Which is what other posters get away without issue, which was my point.

But I may be confusing myself here as that's made my head hurt a bit :D

Just to put your mind at ease, there was no racial element, but thanks for bringing it up for everyone to mule over in the middle of a conversation about something else. Glad to be able to be part of your day as you clearly need to self verify how wonderful you are compared to me. Kisses xx

To be fair, I brought it up first to show the application of double standard around a simple "FUCK YOU", but it wasn't meant to drag that debate open here.

I know, but VoR is always so KIND to highlight how terrible I am, for everyone to see at all the important times when everyone is watching. I can't thank him ENOUGH!

In other news I see Bev is now banned, I presume from a self request :(

The point I'm trying to make is that saying FUCK YOU to another poster in the middle of a conversation that is explicitly about antisemitism and islamophobia, no matter which side it comes from, is clearly going to escalate things in a different way to when you say it elsewhere. Whether or not it was the right call in that moment, removing him from the conversation was simply intended to create a cooling off period and prevent further escalation in an incredibly sensitive topic.

On Tesco, again, he posted two out-of-line assertions in short succession, and then vanished before any further action needed to be taken. Also I couldn't personally have banned him if I'd wanted to, only Admin can do that. So there's probably an element that I was the first person to respond there and my warnings were apparently enough to prevent that from escalating, whereas when it came to ggggggg vs Bev, the conversation was rapidly getting nasty and showed no sign of abating.

By which, the ban was therefore to stop the conversation rather than punish the poster?

Then why wasn't the thread closed or the posters on both sides stopped from posting in it?

Actually, if we're going to go down this route, which has been used as a defence a few times by you now,

1:35- Tesco makes a frankly foul post
2:26- Suedey responds
2:29- You issue the warning
2:51- Tesco continues the argument

So actually, Tesco came back and entirely ignored your warning and continued the argument, without action from anyone or, and happy to correct me if I'm wrong, any discussion from the mods/ admin team. It's not as if they wouldn't have seen your post at that point- it was 22 minutes later. Indeed, all you did was reiterate the warning (which I actually agree was the right course of action...had it been applied consistently).
