Wasn't sure where to put this as it's not just TV...

I know there are other true crime fans/gawkers here so I thought this would be a good resource to share stuff we have liked or otherwise get our GRISLY FIX

Some stuff I have enjoyed from the top of my head:

Podcasts
Casefile - sexy Aussie monotone man tells a usually very compelling tale of murder
My Favorite Murder - the big one, really like them both and they tell stories well
Hunting Warhead - journalist tries to find the leader of a paedophile ring, very well made
Where Is George Gibney - investigating historic sexual abuse allegations against an Irish swimming coach
Teacher's Pet - so good. Australian podcast about a woman who went missing and her husband who is thought to have been involved
Broken Harts - very sad but great too. Investigating the lesbian couple who drove their adopted children off a cliff
This Is Actually Happening - not always crime, but it's a podcast where someone tells a story from their life which was harrowing in some way

TV
Outcry (Sky) - brilliant documentary series about a celebrated high school football player who's accused of sexually abusing a child, follows the legal process to its conclusion over several years
Don't F*ck With Cats (Netflix) - very well-known at this stage, but great

Film
Tell Me Who I Am (Netflix) - most have probably seen this, but it's an excellent documentary about adult twins. One loses his memory and relies on the other to tell him about his life.
American Murder: The Family Next Door (Netflix) - woman and children go missing, husband gives interview... :bruised:
 
the true crime-adjacent documentary Three Identical Strangers on Netflix is amazing and made me cry. thoroughly recommend.

Tell Me Who I Am sounds essential!

Anyone else watched The Yorkshire Ripper stuff on Netflix?
 
The Dr Death podcast (season one especially) is exceptional!
 
My favourite true crime podcast is Red Handed, which is hosted by these two British women who are manage to balance the seriousness of the crimes with some quite funny cutaway dialogue. Following a podcast is quite interesting - when they started they were both doing other jobs, and through the success of the show they’ve both managed to go full time. I’m even a Patreon of them and can see that they get about $25,000 a month in pledges. They also came 2nd this year in the British podcast awards.

otherwise, I also really like You’re Wrong About, which is a North American podcast that tackle a wide range of cases, all of which the general public have some misconception about. I love how calm and curious the hosts are in comparison to the more shouty alternatives. I think @Tetris-Rock is a fan too.
 
OMG I hated You're Wrong About. :D I tried the first two Diana episodes but the woman host is AWFUL and they're both far too American and make light of everything without actually being particularly FUNNY. it actually briefly put me off podcasts altogether.
 
I do respect Casefile as well, but I’ve sort of stopped kidding myself that I can listen to it with the lights out and get a good nights sleep, because I do find it really quite scary and unsettling. The number of times I check the front door and look behind the curtains ANYWAY, I really can’t handle the cold harsh truth of Casefile :D

Case 50 Jennifer Pan - I actually sat up in bed listening to that opening phone call to the police and then the twists and turns kept me gripped throughout - it’s probably the best episode of a true crime podcast I’ve ever heard, and if you don’t know the case then I would strongly recommend you go in cold.
 
I had to listen to the Casefile episodes about the Golden State Killer in broad daylight :D

ah interesting, I suppose it’s just a preference in style because I find them to be a bit like university peers trying to get an assignment written or something so their enthusiasm is what comes through.

For a good example of what I really dislike, listen to “That’s Spooky” - @HerSereneHighnessAnniFrid loves their banter but I just find them exactly as you describe in your post about You’re Wrong About. It’s like, for gods sake, SHUT UP!

Ah yep I checked them out when you mentioned them before! I like their vibe and thought they mostly stayed on the right side of respectful (with an occasional lapse) but a good listen.

I've started Casefile. :disco: easing myself in with the Yosemite Murders ep before I get to that one Suomi recommended in such glowing terms
 
I'm 2 minutes in and I hate the host's voice so much. :D do you get USED TO IT?

Just finished watching The Ripper on Netflix. It was interesting enough but very patchy - half of the survivors weren’t even mentioned and one of the murder victims was completely disregarded until the very last moment which just felt bizarre and disrespectful.

I thought the first three episodes were good, actually thought how clever it was for them not to even mention Peter Sutcliffe until the final episode, and then the last one was just very.... flat.
 
Price of Honor (amazon prime) - father kills his two daughters in taxicab after their mom lures them home after they ran away. He remains at large, and there is a terrifying 911 call they play where the dispatcher basically blew them off as they were dying.

I know people were fed up with it by the end but I really enjoyed The Vow on HBO. Could have been a bit shorter but I appreciated the grounded approach.

Four eps down I have an idea of what went down and I'm almost ready to convict but maybe hold off just FOR NOW hun

the host is amazing. listening to this straight after Casefile... :D

There's a few podcasts that seem to pop up on here now and then. I could see it getting some use.
 
I just watched the first episode of Murder on Middle Beach, an HBOmax docu-series about a woman who was murdered in her yard in Connecticut. It's interesting in that her son is the one who made the documentary about his own mothers murder. He isn't the most gripping interviewer, but the family connection makes it really fascinating

The stuff about the “gifting tables” in episode two is gripping! I want a whole documentary about that!

I’m about to start episode 2 so I haven’t seen about them yet but I started watching because of a podcast mentioning the gifting tables. Have you finished the whole thing?

I have. It’s quite clear who did it by the end, but each episode brings forward ANOTHER suspect :D

well I was ready to blame the dad after like 20 minutes so I think I’ll probably fall for all of them :D

I’m also kind of attracted to Madison for some reason
 
Well I finished Murder on Middle Beach. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but the last episode was probably my least favorite (it could have been an hour)

I’ve binged the four episode Nxivm documentary on Starz and really enjoyed it. It’s very much a compliment to the HBO documentary which focused a lot more on how they took him down versus Seduced which was focused more on one victim and her experience being indoctrinated.
 
The "Talk Show Murder" ep of the Trial By Media series on Netflix was captivating. The Jenny Jones Show invited two men (one who didn't know the other was gay) and had the gay man confess his love for his friend on national television. The straight man went home and killed his friend because he was so humiliated (circa 1995). The doc followed the criminal trial and then the civil trial against the Jenny Jones Show, which was interesting. The Court of Appeals reversed the jury's 25 million dollar judgment against the Jenny Jones Show and dismissed the case, which I think was the right decision. However the murderer is out and about now :zombie:
