The UK: The Keir Starmer years - RESIGNED (5 Viewers)

People are kicking off about the removal of the two-child limit on benefits. These are the same people who also kicked off about well-off pensioners losing a small amount of money in Winter.

This shithouse country would rather children starve than let old people be very slightly inconvenienced.

I worked in the benefit system - the limit was barbaric and massively unpopular, it just stinks of 'the budget wasn't actually that bad, let's throw shit anyway'.

I've had some people comment today about how it'll just incentivise LAYABOUTS to continue popping out sprogs they can't afford.

And whilst I agree there are a very small handful of DREADFUL breeders who take advantage of the system, it is a small handful and ultimately most of those DREADFUL breeders will reproduce regardless. All we'd be doing is shoving the blameless kids further down into poverty.

It's one of those problems that there really is no perfect solution. You can't punish the parent without punishing the kid. The only other routes are to either quietly slip things into the water grid or loudly embark on a NATIONAL STERILISATION CAMPAIGN. And for a minute that feels justifiable and then you realise you are at worst becoming Big Brother and at best emulating a Channel 4 dystopian drama series, and then your brain wants to eat itself :(

Children don't vote. And if they can kill the poor ones, the trans ones and the forren ones then they consider that a win.

Look at this cunt.

When do we start putting these pricks in the dock and pelt them with dead hamsters?

HOW? :D :D

I enjoy mocking the government as much as the next man, but that budget really wasn’t bad at all and this performative screeching is so fucking transparent.

Some Geordie Shore cunt was having an embolism on Twitter yesterday calling Reeves ‘the face of pure evil’ because she scrapped the two child limit. This cunt who has only got anywhere in life by getting head on a fucking reality show is suddenly telling other people they don’t fucking deserve money. This country boils my piss.

TO BE FAIR (which I am loathe to be), they're still proposing reducing the existing time period from 2 years to 6 months
Why would you split the difference here? The right will be furious it changed at all, and the left are furious they broke a manifesto pledge.

It sounds like the actual problem is that the Lords won’t let it through with day one unfair dismissal protection so they have decided that it’s better to get some of their reforms on the statute books rather than delay or lose them all. Just one more reason why the House of Lords needs reformed out of existence in its current form.

His tactic of attempting to publicly shame them into acquiescing was SUCH a miscalculation. People generally support the doctors!

The only thing he's eating right now is HUMBLE PIE :disco:

Streeting said the NHS, which is under intense strain due to the usual winter pressures, “is coping” during the strike, but admitted he was concerned about the coming days.

“The period that worries me more is the post-strike period when we have to try and recover the service. That now falls at a time of year which is the NHS’s busiest,” the health secretary told the Observer.

On Friday, Streeting said he wanted to end the dispute and that “we will get around the table with them again in the new year”, but insisted he has a responsibility to all NHS staff.

“I don’t think that doctors are selfish and don’t care about nurses and other healthcare professionals, but the BMA’s position can be quite hardline and uncompromising,” he added. We will have more on this story, and other political developments in the UK, shortly.

Given the NEC has been stacked in favour of Starmer/McSweeney loyalists for a while, I don’t much fancy his chances.

Andy Burnham, will sadly be as popular as Starmer.

The reality, we will probably never have a popular PM again, or at least until this societal polarisation simmers down.

The thing with polarisation though is that you can at least, in theory, have some people really like you - like Boris Johnson at one point. Keir Starmer gets the inevitable LOATHING from the right but can only inspire indifference from the left. I think lots of people could do better - including Andy Burnham who has been quite popular with the electorate in his role for years.

I just don't see it. I understand he's popular and I don't dislike him, I just don't see him as a successful or even popular PM.

Oh the noisy brigade on Facebook hate him.

Burnham has until 5PM tomorrow to decide whether he’s running (a deadline for sitting Mayors and PCCs to notify the NEC that they want to apply).

Apparently he's also demanded that his MP's turn all their firepower onto the Greens, which if Starmer's track record is anything to go by should have them topping the national polling by mid-February. :disco:
