there's no reason to throw a GE anytime soon, there's not even a powerful opposition in the Commons. the one thing he does have is time.
 
Who'd replace him? The press hate Rayner even more and there isn't one reasonable candidate to be found anywhere within that cabinet of horrors.
 
Bizarrely, the best thing that could happen is the Tories getting their act together and aiming for the centre ground but the idea of being left of Starmer's hard-right Labour Party would be impossible for them to handle.
 
He does feel very much to the RIGHT of Cameron and May. I genuinely don’t understand what demographic they think will vote for them next election. The lib-dems are going to soak up all the centrist dads, and liberal former conservatives, and they’ve clearly lost most of the white working class to reform.

They still have 4 years left to govern so God knows why they’re capitulating so much ground to reform when the election is years away, all their doing is shifting the Overton window so that Reform can propose even more extremist policies once the election does come around.
 
Starmer's only moment of actual danger will be next May, with the devolved elections, and I think some councils in England as well?

Even then, I reckon if they wanted a head to roll, it would be Reeves.

Surely someone can see that all they are doing is giving Reform voters the validation they are justified but that they will never vote Labour?
 
I suspect this might be a ‘Diane Abbot sends her son to private school’ situation, where she took a risk to prioritise her son and it’s now blown up in her face.

But if we take her at face value, and the rules of property tax are so labyrinthine that even the housing minister can’t wrap her her head around them, how can they seriously expect anybody to have confidence in them?
 
Oh and for all the headlines about Starmer losing a ‘key ally’, it’s an open secret that they absolutely loathe each other, so I doubt he’s terribly upset over this.

Now she’s lumbered with an 800k flat and no ministerial salary to pay the mortgage, that POOR WOMAN!
 
Surely nobody remotely progressive is a member at this point. They'll probably vote for NIGEL FARAGE.
 
I think it's right that ministers are held to a high standard on things like this. She has a direct line to HMRC. It's not like she needs to sit on the line to a CALL CENTRE.

Sorry to see her go, especially because I think she's been good on the housing stuff, which is one of few things this government have been decent on.
 
Any Tory would have got away with this - wouldn't even have been reported. The opportunity was seized to get the only left wing person in the Government out and it was taken.
 
A shame, but it was incredibly stupid of her to not seek proper advice, and potentially lying about it. Despite Tories having done worse, her position became untenable mainly because her politics are about doing better and calling out Tory sleaze in the past.
 
She believed that she relied on the legal advice she had received, but unfortunately did not heed the caution contained within it, which acknowledged that it did not constitute expert tax advice and which suggested that expert advice be sought.
