The UK: The Keir Starmer years - RESIGNED

The leader of our local Reform party has been crowing on about this on social media, happily ignoring the irony that the restaurant he owns has just failed all sorts of health and safety and got a 2* rating because, I paraphrase, “it’s all a political witch hunt”.

Maybe remind him Farage has been caught out dodging tax (again) today and ask if he supports him resigning too?

The dreadful David Lammy IN as Deputy Prime Minister.

The dreadful Yvette Cooper IN as foreign secretary, OUT as Home Sec and replaced by the dreadful Shabana Mahmood.

Cooper proscribing Palestine Action is one of the biggest and most pointless unforced errors in a year of shit decisions, so little surprise she’s being moved on.

BBC News commentary today followed by their live link to Farage's gleeful conference speech, with reverential awe and no scrutiny, after describing the "Labour govt" chaos made me queasy. I haven't seen TV news bulletins for a long time, so didn't fully appreciate how far through the looking glass we are

Horrendous isn't it. Imagine the incompetence and inexperience of a reform government. It doesnt bare thinking about.

Why don’t these Reform voters care that Farage spends half his time traveling around the world to do speeches at right wing conferences and getting paid a pretty penny for it? When did being a PUBLIC SERVANT become less important than being a mouthpiece and hired hack for racism and xenophobia?

Because it’s the elite grabbing the, for want of a better word, poorer vote isn’t it? They promise life is better without (insert immigrant/transgender/whomever target) and if they get rid they will suddenly own a house and be happy.

And people with nothing to lose grab on to it. It’s utterly disgraceful, knowing any right wing party has no interest in bettering the lives of those worse off, but I guess it gives people hope.

Streeting OUT

Wes Streeting, the health secretary, has ruled out standing for deputy Labour leader, Sky News reports. That is no surprise. As a male, London MP, he does not meet two of the three criteria that Harriet Harman says should apply to the new deputy. (See 9.23am.) He is also relatively unpopular with party members, according to the regular LabourList membership survey. (They think he’s too rightwing.)

in the recycle bin along with "trans women are women - that is actually the law", sustainable energy/green policy, and Angela Rayner.

Oh fuck OFF with this shit. What is even the point. Call it what the fuck you like if it helps you get through the day - are they killing thousands of innocent people or aren’t they?

I don’t think it’s a significant update, just Lammy re-stating the government’s current default position. They said the other day they were still committed to Palestine recognition so hopefully that still happens.

“The potential to go far”

Well yes if you hadn’t made Labour unelectable for a generation.

I would like to see Emily Thornberry as deputy; I liked her a while before discovering the Moopy icons (and I think this is my first time using these :D)

I'm not sure Em will have much of a vote base. She's on the outs with Starmer and his acolytes, she's another London-centric candidate when the only thing the left and right agree on is that they want somebody from outside the capital, and Owen Jones has been waging war on her since she made those initial comments about Israel having the right to cut off water for Gazans, so she's unlikely to get much help from what remains of the Labour left.
