The United Kingdom: The RISHI RICH Sunak ERA

As recently as 1955, there was only one living former Prime Minister. I would strongly support that happening again soon. Obviously, Gordon Brown can stay.

It feels like he already did, just in various stages of muffled statements. The hint dropping might not be getting headlines but the signs are all there.

I hope they get absolutely mauled after they announce how much extra we’re all going to pay in tax.

Waiting for him to sneak in the awful news between bullshit headlines.

This is one time when I support conspiracy theories. Because this endless cycle of Tory economic manipulation to keep the working class suppressed is now WAY too obvious to be ignored by most people. Austerity 2 will not work. I don’t even understand how they think it will… especially given this time around they have caused the problem. Blaming Ukraine and Labour is beyond futile.

Actually the raises in education are significantly lower than inflation, so fuck him.

All these committees/ investigations are going to be so ideologically led.

I never realised we pay quite a bit more in tax in Scotland until my pay got screwed up and I had an English tax code. Thought I had received a very decent pay rise.

England should get levelling UP 😬

Yeah we have more tax bands than England, so the majority of people in Scotland pay less tax (something like the bottom 51%) but the top 49% pay more.

Sounds like a lot of the really bad stuff is being kicked two years down the road. Presumably this is to both increase the Tory chances of hanging on by sparing too much of the pain until after the next election, while also putting Labour on the defensive as they'll have some very tricky decisions to make if they do take power in the next election cycle.

On unemployment, i did also note a rather ominous comment he made about 'reviewing' how easy it is to get on PIP. So I imagine that's thinly veiled code for cutting support for a lot of vulnerable people.

The number of DWP staff who are leaving because of the brutal treatment of people on benefits is already shockingly high and I think that would tip a lot more over the edge.

Been there, done that. Under a Labour government. I can't even begin to imagine what the last decade and a half has been like.

From my old office I know of at least three people who’ve quit in the last six months without another job to go to. People are making themselves unemployed rather than work for the DWP. At least a dozen more have left to work in the private sector.

This niggled at my Frasier memory for some reason, and I just realised why.

Bebe: Incidentally, Dr. Phil paid me fifteen percent.
Frasier: Well, as will Dr. Frasier. I've just got one very difficult call to make to my agent.
Bebe: Already handled. I also took the liberty of calling Spokane, the terms of your deal there were worse than abysmal.
Frasier: Great, great. You got me more money?
Bebe: No, they wouldn't budge, so you quit! You're no longer on in Spokane, isn't it exciting?
Roz: Wait a minute, that is a step backwards.
Bebe: All the better to get a running start. In my opinion, the future is firmly in front of us. Congratulations, Frasier.

Feel a wee bit sorry for Sara Cox there - she handles it perfectly but these are the kind of things that get shows reviewed, put on time delays and crap like that.

Um well he just used the c-word on a drive time radio show hun.
We're a little uptight about that sort of thing before the watershed darling.
