All these Matt Hancock WhatsApp revelations are bizarre. From anti-Lockdown, Reform UK, loon Isabel Oakshotte. She ghost wrote his book, signed an NDA and then leaked it all to The Telegraph. Such obnoxious journalism. As Jon Sopel said earlier, you don't want either of them to win.

It's profoundly depressing that there will still be people within the demographic this is designed to appeal to who will feel it's not going far enough. But I live in some hope that this is seen more broadly as the moment things have gone "too far". The commentary this morning - besides the usual suspects, of course - feels different.

I spent a good 30 seconds earlier wondering why it felt like a big thing and I think you've nailed it on the head there.
 
My cousin is fairly right wing, we often bicker about our political positions, but even he admitted he has no intention of voting for them next GE. That said, he is now dating and living with a BROWN girl, so that might also have shifted his perspective a bit.

I really don't think it will - it's a surprisingly low (considering how much the press whip up a frenzy) priority for voters and attitudes to immigration are slowly softening across the board. It appeals to the base but you don't win from the base.

The real danger is an economic recovery which may already be happening (but even that would likely require a concurrent and notable increase in living standards)
 
Although I'd rather the lovely pale God fearing Boris was back, I think Rishy is doing wonderful work on this. I lived through three world wars and thankfully this policy is just as good as the Nazis.
 
If this was maybe six months before an election, I might understand why they're pushing the angle now because there'd be nothing to judge them by other than nonsensical rhetoric. But I have seen very few people, if indeed anybody, of the belief that this will actually work, regardless of whether it's even legal or not. So, the numbers from 2023 and (most of) 2024 are likely to just be there as a direct contraindication. And that's really what they're clinging on to?
 
It's unlikely that it'll actually pass legally, but in a way that plays right into their narrative the LABOUR/THE EU/LEFTIES/REMAINERS etc are responsible for everything ever going wrong and thats why you shouldn't vote for anyone else.
