They’ll absolutely roll it back at some point because both the US government and Musk’s various boards and special interests (not sure which is more powerful at this point tbh) will be begging them both to wind it in - they’re terrified that this will give the left any sort of leverage or destabilise what they’re trying to build / make money from.

Of course any ceasefire will remain temporary because these egos are just too fragile to stay calm with all that’s been said.
 
On one hand it is funny, and it's nice to see them embarrassing themselves.

On the other hand part of me despairs that they're getting all the attention they crave while both continue to do grim things in the background.
 


This is obviously going to crash and burn spectacularly, but I do hope it gets far enough to take the Republican party down with it.
 
Most people don't even like him! He's managed to alienate all sides, in a way even Starmer couldn't imagine.

Musk’s ego (and, like Trump, constantly being surrounded by yes men) is allowing him to believe he is popular and loved and respected. His wider popularity sits only with the MAGA base and they will turn on him the moment they all realise that this is not fake news. They’re all seemingly in a state of denial at the moment. It’ll take a minute for them to rewire their addled brains from Musk:Good to Musk:Bad but once they do he’s finished.

It's fascinating how they both think they can finish each other but @funky is right, Trump's cult is far more rabid and insane than Musk's. Plus, I have Musk in my Deathlist.

The problem is that it was ludicrous enough to be plausible. These two creatures (among others) have completely destroyed the idea of integrity and credibility in high office. Which, I contend was part of the mission with Trump (and Boris Johnson).

There may be a public truce to keep the base happy, but Musk is going to be 100% frozen out after this, and even if he manages to keep a lid on it for a little while, it’s hard not to imagine him spiralling further after a few weeks/months in the cold.

He's now sending the national guard to LA, to put down protests against immigration policies and ICE. A union leader has been arrested too. This is authoritarian fascism in action.
