The USA: Trump-Biden Transition - attempted coup + Trump IMPEACHED (AGAIN!)

It’s a pipe dream, but I’d love a high-speed second impeachment.

Ellen Degeneres is the epitome of celebrity evil in 2021 right? So I WIN (aka lose)

The full HOUR phonecall has leaked now. I'm 12 minutes in and had to shut off. He is quite charming in the beginning and then just flips. He clearly knows what he is doing. A dangerous man and remarkably narcissistic. The guy sounds like his gonna have a stroke. HERES HOPING!

I mean, when DICK CHENEY is signing a letter saying your behaviour is morally dubious, you know things are bad...

All 10 former US defence secretaries still living, including two who worked for Donald Trump, have called for the president and his supporters to accept he lost the election and warned against attempts to involve the military in his increasingly desperate efforts to overturn the result.

In an unprecedented joint letter published in the Washington Post, the defence secretaries addressed the worst fears of what could happen in 17 days of Trump’s administration remaining before Joe Biden’s inauguration: an attempt by Trump to foment a crises with the aim of triggering a military intervention in his last-ditch struggle to hold on power.

“Efforts to involve the US armed forces in resolving election disputes would take us into dangerous, unlawful and unconstitutional territory,” the letter said.

“Civilian and military officials who direct or carry out such measures would be accountable, including potentially facing criminal penalties, for the grave consequences of their actions on our republic.”

Among the signatories were James Mattis and Mark Esper, who both served as defence secretaries in the Trump administration. Esper openly contradicted Trump in June by insisting there were no grounds for invoking the Insurrection Act, which allows for the deployment of US troops on American streets in extreme circumstances.

Dick Cheney, defence secretary under George HW Bush, and vice-president to his son, George W Bush, and Donald Rumsfeld, defence secretary in the younger Bush’s administration, also signed. The other signatories were William Perry and William Cohen, defence secretaries in the Bill Clinton administration; Leon Panetta, Chuck Hagel and Ashton Carter, who served under Barack Obama; and Robert Gates, who served under both the younger Bush and Obama.

“Transitions, which all of us have experienced, are a crucial part of the successful transfer of power. They often occur at times of international uncertainty about US national security policy and posture,” the former defence secretaries wrote. “They can be a moment when the nation is vulnerable to actions by adversaries seeking to take advantage of the situation.”

He probably won't be allowed in, although if he does it as President, he has a better chance than as a private citizen.

Presumably, if there was a warrant for his arrest, Police Scotland probably would. But then would he be extradited to the US? I thought it was quite difficult to get extradited there from the UK?

The US has the right to extradite from the UK but the UK can't extradite from the US

@RJN when will we find out who wins? (And when are the Jon Ossoff nudes going to be leaked :horny:)

I wouldn't count on it being tonight if the Presidential election was anything to go by :D

@Soldi Who the fuck knows? I'll be staying up all night once again waiting for the results though. I do think they'll count quicker than in November though. My ballot was maybe 1/10 as long as that one.

I can't believe this is today. I am feeling cautiously optimistic

It's going to be proper gutting if the Republicans win this after everything that's gone down.

I know :(. They’ve just been so evil and have disregarded democracy and I don’t understand how so many people can still support them.

I saw a friend yesterday and she told me her dad had voted for Perdue and Warnock. Why?? It’s baffling

That's my big worry. I think more people than expected will vote split ticket because they like the idea of a check on the Democrats.

Unless there's a big upset I think Warnock will beat Loeffler. But I think Osoff/Perdue is really going to be razor thin.

Agreed to all of that.

If Ossoff doesn't win, he needs to do something else. I've now voted for him 4 times with not much to show for it

Although the infrastructure built from the 2017 election did help the suburbs swing left so much so I guess there is something to show for it

I'm not sure if he really thinks the UK loves him. His popularity in the UK is as low as any Western nation.

I imagine he'll end up doing what rich people do - flitting between properties.

Boris will agree not to prosecute him. He won't live in Scotland: a windy country with his hairdo? Eh, naw.

I think you’re giving trump too much credit if you think he knows anything about England vs. Scotland

Well, he knows it's not an independent country. How much he knows about Scotland having its own legal system is another matter.

Well he doesn't understand the difference between state and federal laws in the country that he is president of, so my expectations aren't too high for him knowing that

Really laying it on thick isn't he... Mike Pence 100% that bitch for the next 24 hrs

:D

The day after inauguration is when I feel I’ll be ready to start criticizing them

In mlk’s version, it was an 8 year old. In her rip-off, she was young enough to be in a stroller!
