The definition of "Best Reasonable Efforts" in the contract is pretty vague, as is usually the case (because it tries to deal with any reasonable scenario rather than a specific scenario). If the EU plans on suing under the contract, it would need to take AstraZeneca to a national Belgian court under the terms of the contract - I've no idea how efficient the court system is in Belgium. Possibly it could try to get an injunction to force AZ to deliver the vaccine (known as 'specific performance') but I don't think the contract is clear cut enough and it's really political rather than legal pressure being exerted.

That doesn't change their number per 100 population.
 
So fed up of colleagues moaning about what a difficult decision it is to have the vaccine. Lots of them have turned it down. Today I said “hope you don’t die!” to one of them and everyone was agog, but COME ON 100,000 PEOPLE ARE DEAD.
 
Vaccinating non vulnerable people is quicker, isnt it? It doesn't involve the same amount of time to visit care homes and the like.

Why do you have colleagues that have been offered the vaccine already? Are they ancient?!

I think it works in that they probably get a database of the people of a group and then just call them in whatever order they appear on the list. Nothing more than that.
 
Question: of all the people who suffered with some fairly strong after-effects of the vaccine... had any of you had the virus before? I'm wondering if the vaccine will have less strong side-effects if you've already had the disease? Showing my vaccination ignorance here.
 
I had a really sore arm for a few days and felt a bit flu-like the next day (although paracetamol helped with that) and as far as I’m aware I’ve not had it (although I had a negative antibodies test in June and was in the middle of that massive Manchester outbreak in September so who knows!)

Of course but I am just saying that objectively speaking, Israel and the UAE are still vaccinating more people than we are. Totally understand that there may be an element of 'fudging' in terms of prioritisation (I am not aware of what's going on in either country so I won't commment), but that doesn't change those particular data.

Anyway I'd say the main reason they're doing 'better' than us (if we want to phrase it that way) is that they are smaller countries with significantly smaller populations, and therefore 'easier' to vaccinate.
 
Interestingly, and I don't want to sound alarmist, but apparently the initial data from Israel show that the first vaccine dose confers about 30% protection.

Which is another reason for Boris and his motley crue to U-turn back on delaying our second doses but of course theyu won't...

Interestingly I was talking to my colleague about this, he works in hospitals most days, and he said there's a school of thought that if you react after having the vaccine, it's likely you've had covid!

Which suprised me because obviously I'm not aware of having had it, and secondly I would have thought the same as you, that if it's the first time your body is being presented with the virus that you'd experience a bigger reaction!

So what is the deal with that? When I got my first today, I got an automatic second date for my second. Is that not happening in the UK?

I do know some who have been booked for their second following the first, but most of us 'will be contacted'. Our government is pushing to have more people get the first dose so have ignored the manufacturer and WHO'S guidelines on the maximum interval (I think it was 3 and 4 weeks) and have decided to make ours a 12 week interval.

Well that is a stupid decision. How can the people be expected to believe in a vaccine when the manufacture's guidelines are being ignored
 
Last week the British Medical Association were calling for it to be reduced to 6 weeks, but they didn't listen!

I hope so. I mean they've done so well with getting on with those 4 groups, I do believe they'll hit their target of mid Feb. But I have lost all faith in this government and I just feel they'll screw up again! But let's see, stay positive hey.
 
I thought I'd read they have slipped behind target now, after rates have dropped this week.
 
It's surprising they've dropped, I keep hearing about loads of new centres opening up. Also I keep hearing that they're really looking for over 70's as they have plenty of availability. I wonder if it's dropped place because they need to open it up to the over 65's now to fill these slots.
 
I'm already SO tired. I tried to go for a run but couldn't. Did anyone else who's been vaccinated get that?

Only marginally. The pace is still pretty good.

I think they'll have done it by about 20th or so at current rates.
 
A record 600k vaccinated here today. That should put us comfortably back on schedule.
 
I’ve noticed the SEYCHELLES are doing very well. They’ve vaccinated ~30% of their population (both doses too).

Yes they have a little under 100,000 people living there but still :disco:
 
My Dad got the text today, cue parental paranoia that it might be a scam.
 
Yeah my parents got their first doses - they got AstraZeneca. Mum was wondering if she could get Pfizer because that's what I got :manson:
