The War in Ukraine

I don't want to damn people for venting, but it is a bit exhausting and even insensitive to bound in at midnight on a Sunday predicting an imminent nuclear apocalypse. Maybe the key is staying out of this thread but it is mostly an interesting read; it's just when individuals are repeatedly speaking about the worst case scenario as if it's a dead cert...

Blame the tabloid culture of the UK.

I passed the newsstands again this morning and the headlines are just disgusting.

I do think that's an incredibly brave thing to do. She could face prison for that.

The Guardian said she was one of the news editors so I can't imagine they'll be lenient with her.

Hopefully those “craft” content farms will fuck off too

*puts epoxy resin on everything*

I watched a 5-minute craft where they cut a big euro coin into ribbons with special tools, and smelted some of it, hand-made chain links and made a fetching bracelet. Definitely one to try out on a lazy evening before teatime

Her full message on Telegram was:
"What is happening in Ukraine is a crime. Russia is an aggressor country and the responsibility for this aggression rests on the conscience of only one person. That person is Vladimir Putin. My father is Ukrainian, my mother is Russian, and they've never been enemies. This necklace I'm wearing is a symbol of that fact that Russia must immediately end this fratricidal war. And our fraternal peoples will still be able to make peace. Unfortunately, I've spent the last few years working for Channel One, making Kremlin propaganda, and I'm very ashamed of this. Ashamed that I allowed lies to be broadcast from TV screens. Ashamed that I allowed others to zombify Russian people. We were silent in 2014 when all this started. We didn't protest when the Kremlin poisoned Navalny. We just silently watched this inhuman regime at work. And now the whole world has turned its back on us. And the next 10 generations won’t wash away the stain of this fratricidal war. We Russians are thinking and intelligent people. It's in our power alone to stop all this madness. Go protest. Don't be afraid of anything. They can't lock us all away."

Is there any sign of a ceasefire at all? The hope has well and truly receded, hasn't it? :(

Oh of course the Grindr/pop queens comparisons were coming.

(but out of curiosity, who does that make Putin?)

Realistically, it's still negligible, but both sides have been unusually positive about how the last couple of rounds of negotiations have gone, in the sense that they've started to talk constructively as opposed to being a complete stalemate.

In non-hair-related news, it seems that Macron opened the way for Marina Ovsyannikova to ask for asylum, which is nice.
