If Ani Lorak says something stupid, presumably we can remove her?

Well she posted 'STOP WAR' on Instagram and she's coming in for criticism not saying more. Most likely she's thinking about how any comments will impact on her career in Russia.

I was in two minds about her (and Loboda, sad as it is) but at least they didn't go down the Gagarina route of liking shit - at least we haven't seen it yet. But yes, Ani Lorak and Loboda are OUT the moment there's even a HINT of pro-Russia.

Fake news, I live in one of the blue bits where nuclear subs are built and suspect it'd be one of the first places to turn black (which is probably good from a "wanting to be in the middle of the fireball" perspective in that scenario, but it depends how precise the nuke is as I live 10 miles away from the sub place)

Every major government is backtracking to historical degrees.

I do worry how some of this is going end up. Filling a country with weapons, displacing populations and alienating a lunatic leader never end well.

Yeah because any of the standard divisive tactics just aren't going to work at the moment - the world is utterly united on this. In that sense this was also shockingly poor timing on Putin's part - we've all been separated for two years because of the pandemic, we were desperate to get back together again behind a common cause.

I do fear for the next few days, with that massive convoy heading towards Kyiv. Feels like they're about to push for the big attack.

And there are various reports that 25-40% of the troops Russia assembled on the border have not yet been deployed in Ukraine.

This could be interesting...

This feels huge to me. Switzerland stay out of EVERYTHING. I hope this snowball effect continues. I do feel bad for innocent Russian people who didn’t ask for this and are going to be hit hard by sanctions, but their houses aren’t currently being bombed so hopefully they’ll understand and themselves to the rising tide against their leader

RS the new NOSTRADAMUS (well, at least up to day five of the war)

I mean so far there aren’t any other options. An active NATO participation would only escalate things, not sure it’s what we’d want.

But I’ve also done coke and shots all night so I’m not thinking clearly.

Call me (again) xx

But tbh I’m not against Finland and Sweden joining NATO, and Ukraine joining the EU at this point. Putin has Europe wrapped round his finger at the minute.

Sweden and Finland should definitely join NATO; the only reason they haven’t done it so far is because they’re too selfish. They want protection but they don’t want to provide it for others. That’s at least how it is for Sweden, Finland might have other reasons.

As for Ukraine joining the EU; I’m not sure they’re ready for it yet. They should get all the financial support and be part of the single market, that should improve living standard in Ukraine.
But politically, I don’t know if they have robust democratic institutions. It feels wrong to criticise Ukraine right now but we hardly need another future Poland or Hungary in the union blocking all progressive policies.
