The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow

That last 90 seconds of “Abyss” need a full album of that please from you Lana, tks. :disco:

any Lana appearance on a project that's unrelated to Jack is welcome in my house but I'm glad that she's uncredited in it because that's hardly a feature :D

I'm listening to the album now and I'm halfway through it, Abel's album always hit me the same way, on first listen it's all very samey and tame but repeated listens help uncover a handful of great tracks; and I love his obsession with Brazil, at this point I'm glad he knows how to write São Paulo properly!

Proud lifelong hater of his crap whiny voice

I do quite enjoy one of the biggest pop queens releasing a new album, and all Mopsy focuses on is a 10 second Lana Del Rey cameo :D

it's not on the physicals either, maybe it was just for the apple compaign.

I tried a few tracks and they were OK but overall his sound is quite tired and flat and the hooks ain't hooking the same. a big step down.

I'm not sure when I'll be ready to listen to all of that, but Open Hearts is pulsing electronic excellence :disco:

I have been jumping around but aside from Abyss I liked Niagra Falls, Open Hearts and Take Me Back to LA

I will of course get round to listening to this but right now I have absolutely no desire to

The whole campaign stinks of "I had one album left on my deal so here it is, because I can't wait to move on"...

Debuts at #1 in the US with 450k units (320k pure). I’m sure it will drop significantly next week but much stronger than I expected.

I've kept one eye on young Abel's career ever since the beginning. Memories of marching into the only music store in Cambodia and demanding that they get hold of the then-upcoming Trilogy because the guy 'is the future' <facepalm>! I imagined that he'd fly relatively under the radar, be beloved of the Pitchfork crowd, and deliver a couple of wall-to-wall brilliant albums at some point. Instead he's morphed into a commercial behemoth, and though there've been plenty of quality bops along the way, I've yet to hear that masterpiece I once thought him capable of. And I kinda feel like the moment's passed now that he's moved onto different thematic territory (downside of sex & drugs = far more relatable than downside of fame innit). There's some v good stuff on Hurry Up Tomorrow ('São Paulo', 'Open Hearts', the title track) but there's also a lot of bloat that eventually merges into indistinguishable background noise, which is an issue I have with almost all his records. If this is his last as 'The Weeknd' - and I doubt it will be - then I'll be interested to see if he manages to reinvent himself and/or exercise some greater quality control moving forward. Still yet to top House of Balloons imo.

ETA: Also omg at this fucker going on about turning THIRTY-FOUR as if it's time to hit the care home!! Reason enough to cancel him, pfffft.

My highlights also include São Paulo, Open Hearts, and Wake Me Up. How one can muster enough energy to go through the whole album amazes me cause there's more than a handful of non-descriptive tracks (and he's a big fan of those, unfortunately)

Even though Ive only been a casual fan I’ve been listening non stop to this new album.. it needed a bit of time to really grow but there’s actually no track I dislike now.. and Open Hearts is literally incredible!

some of the production is excellent but unfortunately his melodies across the board are reeeeallllly boring. a lot of tracks just don't offer a hook (not for lack of trying) and clearly needed a second draft. most don't peak or crescendo either, so it's just endless dark, propulsive beats going nowhere.

I like Open Hearts a lot (even though he's done it better before). Lana popping up on The Abyss is cute. as the last Weeknd album though it's a pretty limp finale.

What was that cancelled TV show he was in too? Wasn’t he playing himself in that as well?
