Most likely Best Actor winner for Brendan Fraser. I'm sure he's a very nice man and we all enjoyed George of the Jungle but Jesus Christ it looks terrible on so many levels.



Despite the rapturous reception he's been getting at the festivals (10 minute standing ovations!) the Rottentomatoes score is down to 68% now.

I just don’t get why people do it, it sounds like it’s spelled, and there’s a famous TV show Frasier that isn’t spelled like that

This one is actually supposed to be depressing though! Martin McDonagh generally doesn’t sit well with me. I didn’t “get” Three Billboards either.

So I dragged myself to see this….what an unpleasant experience. It’s a filmed play with groan inducing dialogue and characters written by someone who’s never met another human.

Hong Chau comes off best because she’s not just monologuing. The daughter has to be one of the worst written characters ever and poor Samantha Morton.

Yeah, not for me.

But I've always liked Brendan since Gods and Monsters. Playing the hunk in a queer film before it was fashionable - we don't forget!

Yeah I cannot get on board with any praise for the daughter. She was horribly one note throughout - both in character and in acting.

Everyone else was fine (though Morton was streets ahead of Hong Chau for me, even if it was just one scene - she’s so chameleon-like I wasn’t even sure it was her). Fraser was decent but shouldn’t win the Oscar.

I wouldn't say I 'enjoyed' it as it doesn't feel like the right word given the subject matter (I wouldn't go back for a re-watch), but I do recognise it being a good quality movie. It can have a 7.

The daughter was probably my favourite. Maybe swayed because it was young Taylor Swift being a bad bitch.

Just reading the first paragraph of that article, it seems like, even before seeing the film, a positive review from that writer was about as likely as @Ellie declaring Avatar 2 ‘an understated masterpiece’.

She’s right though. I have no particular pro-fat agenda but the film was degrading, horribly written garbage.

I didn’t think so at all. Can’t stand Guardian opinion pieces anyway as they have a dreadful track record of hypocrisy.
