Just on the way back from Dangerous Liaisons, or Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

It’s LONG, but overall very good. Lesley Manville looks incredible! Aidan Turner very hot shirtless, but couldn’t even vaguely hide his Irish accent.

yay! reviews have been all 3 or 4 stars from what I've seen. I'm just excited for Lesley Manville to DO THE DAMN THING.
 
What are our thoughts about this?



I don't personally see the issue with photos during curtain calls at all, although obviously during the performance itself it's an absolute no.

I think if had the audience are doing it and not even applauding then maybe that’s the issue. People taking one quick snap really shouldn’t be objectionable.
 
Had a strong theatre week this week.

Just come back from Dracula with Cynthia Erivo. They are struggling to fill the house at the moment so everyone who enters seems to be winning the £30 lottery and they are sending out links for all the premium priced seats slashed to £60. There were lots of half full rows tonight.

It’s technically impressive, and that’s all I have to say about that.

I also saw Invisible Me at the Southwark Playhouse last night and that was just wonderful.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at The Old Vic was a solid 3 star rating, but a lot of important dynamics between the characters were missed and I couldn’t help but compare it to the excellent version I saw with Christian Slater and Alex Kingston 20 years ago.

Avenue Q coming up tomorrow! Hope it’s as good as I remember.

I had very little memory of the plot and characters other than the racist song, so it was practically all new. A lot of cultural updates re: AI, sliding into DMs, Netflix subscriptions, OnlyFans etc. which I have no idea what they replaced.
 
Currently planning my birthday present from Mr L, which is going to be an evening show of either Oh Mary, followed by a matinee of Teeth N' Smiles the next day, or vice versa. On my own (very much my preference rather than dragging him up for two shows he has very little interest in), and trying to find a decent hotel the night between.

Looks like I can get some good deals on Teeth N' Smiles at least (the reviews I've read have all been 3* 'RLT is good but the show isn't particularly' type of affairs, so it doesn't seem to be selling massively well.
 
I saw it sometime in the early/mid 2010s in Bath with Felicity Kendal, pre-West End.

She'd get bums on seats but I think the part might be a bit beyond her vocally... that said, they lowered the keys for her in Legally Blonde.

I'm off to :america: in June, fuel allowing, and am currently planning on seeing:

- CATS: The Jellicle Ball (hate Cats, love the sound of this)
- Ragtime (Caissie Levy is incredible)
- The Lost Boys (heard it’s either a disaster or the next big Broadway blockbuster)
- Girl, Interrupted (starring King Princess with music by Aimee Mann)
- CrazySexyCool: The TLC Musical (This is in Washington DC and is kind of the reason for the whole trip)

Ooh, that’s a lot! You’ll have to tell me about The Lost Boys. Could be a delightful disaster.

In other news that Karate Kid musical seems to still be going ahead, but they’ve barely sold any tickets and have only just started papering.

Are they going to be speaking in German accents?

I knew this was coming, but it’s a veeery large theatre for a play! I imagine there will be discounts.
 
I saw Totoro a little while back, which was just lovely.

Next show is the Jinx Monsoon/Judy Garland play which I'm looking forward to. In part just because the theatre looks stun.
 
I assumed that 1536 at the Ambassadors might be easy to get a good discount, since it’s not a known IP with no named stars. Seems the reviews have been excellent and it’s selling well so I grabbed a random matinee towards the end of the run in July.
 
I saw Waitress with Carrie Hope Fletcher today (who seems to be quite well-known in the theatre world, although I hadn't heard of her before).
Kind of a strange one, a heavy subject matter (domestic abuse) with very juvenile and broad humour, and almost all of the characters cheating on their spouses, which is just shrugged off? Idk, it felt weird to me, especially since the audience was mostly prosecco huns.

Enjoyed some of the songs, but it's not something I need to see again.

I saw it last night with miss @Pingu and LOVED IT!

Lesley Manville is in phenomenal shape. she and Aidan were both brilliant I thought and obviously a cut above the rest of the cast, but their roles are also the juiciest. loved the staging. my only point of reference is the Close/Malkovich film which it stuck quite closely to but it was a bit more comedic to me, and less devastating/schadenfreude-rich at the end.
 
I was reluctant to book tickets to see Catherine Tate in this as I thought this might happen, but finally gave up hope and went 2 weeks ago.

Catherine was much better than expected but I’ll be definitely going again for the Cole run.
 
Beetlejuice was much better than I anticipated. The film has always been one of those ones that was wrapped in nostalgia, but whenever I’d rewatch it, I realised there were probably 3 or 4 great scenes that held together an average film.

The musical is almost the same plot but with way more Beetlejuice, a lot heavier on swearing with up to date references and jokes. Only weak point was too many ballads sung by Lydia as an obvious stall tactic for them to change the sets behind the curtain. Otherwise, hugely recommended for Moopy and theatre humour.

The inclusion of "her choices" feels a bit unnecessary on behalf of Dawson's Creek Michelle :eyes:
